Checking out another new-to-me challenge blog - little red wagon #839 - their theme is to "use the force," which really caught my eye! Any crafting technique that uses force is what they're looking for - like embossing or die-cutting! So how about both?? After such fun yesterday, I dug through my "foreign" bin again and came out with this pad of "Favorite Flannel Fall" plaids from Lawn Fawn - how to use this AND some "force?" With a hybrid emboss set, of course! I pulled my beloved Changing Leaves bundle, now discontinued, but still so fun! I chose this pretty green plaid, and matched it with Old Olive! This textured leafy stem was perfect to float over it, with this "little note" sentiment as well. A few Transparent Dots finish things off! So sweet! Changing Leaves Stamp Set, Dies & Hybrid EF (retired 2025); Lawn Fawn Favorite Flannel Fall DSP; Basic White & Old Olive CS; Early Espresso Ink; Linen Thread; White Transparent Dots (retired); #LRW839. Now this is a cool idea! Shopping Our Stash #564 is called "free is good!" We're supposed to use something we got for FREE on our card! So this ended up being a fun little adventure, lol. I pulled out my little bin of "other companies," lol, and started poking around. I found a little sleeve full of several various card bases with envelopes that I think has been in there for YEARS - no clue where it came from - I think it was thrown in with some rogue papers I bought eons ago, lol. Next, I found Whittle Shark, a Poppy die that was added for free to an order I placed there once, it's been in there a couple years at least! I also found a little package of mixed sequins from Lawn Fawn - I think those were tucked in my Sweet Christmas Mice order! But the yellow ones looked like the same color as the free envelope, so I ended up with this: a pair of marauding sharks for some lucky soul's birthday, lol. I think this is the most "stash" card I've ever made! Whale Done Stamp Set (retired 2023); Let's Go Fishing DSP (retired); Mystery Card Base & Envelope; Misty Moonlight & Smoky Slate CS; Misty Moonlight Ink; Smoky Slate Blend Marker; Poppy Whittle Shark Die; Lawn Fawn Sequins; #SOS564. Very nice - In{k}spire Me #580 has a New Year's challenge! Let's go! So, I've been hearing that this is the Year of the Horse for CHINESE New Year - let's pull that in so we can use the gorgeous Unbridled Beauty again! Look how perfect this horse portrait looks over the New Year's sentiment from last year's Light the Sky set! It was so close in proportion that I stamped it all on one layer, and cut it out with my Deckled Rectangles! I finished with a few clips of the strange Irregular Weave Trim - I'm trying to think of more ways to use this stuff - it doesn't like to be tied, lol. I finished with a few Pretty Peacock Foiled Gems for some pops of color! Unbridled Beauty & Light The Sky (retired 2024) Stamp Sets; Autumn Toile DSP (retired); Basic White & Gray Granite CS; Early Espresso Ink; Blender Pen; Gray Granite Blend Marker; Irregular Weave Trim; Pretty Peacock Foiled Gems; #IMC580. So excited that my first sketch of the new year is with Freshly Made Sketches #717! I don't get to play here very often, so I'm thrilled! I recently realized that I have used all my Valentine's papers, so I refilled with the upcoming Made With Love DSP pack in the Spring Mini catty - super cute basic Valentine's patterns, with very good color layouts on all the reverse sides - so versatile I had to get it! And look how adorable it is with the Valentines Kisses bundle! Perfect for our loving bears, like this smoocher with some cupid wings, lol. I threw on some Loose Valentines Assortment embellies, too - love the tiny envelopes! I think this is supposed to be for shakers, but I can't resist them placed just so! Valentine Kisses Stamp Set & Dies; Made With Love DSP; Basic White, Flirty Flamingo, Real Red & Crumb Cake CS; Memento Tuxedo Black Ink; Crumb Cake Blends Marker; White Gel Pen; Loose Valentine Assortment; #FMS717. Another new-to-me challenge to try is Inkspirational Challenge #357! They have a code word this round - "cold!" For me, thinking cold is all about snowflakes, which might also be because I live in the desert and don't see the cold stuff too often, lol. This seemed like a perfect prompt to finally break in the big beautiful detailed snowflake die in our Snowy Delights bundle - I've been so distracted by the layered stencils, I hadn't gotten around to it yet! I also remembered this ultra-snowy sheet from our old Storybook Gnomes DSP, too, for the perfect chilly background! I pulled out the retired Pacific Point colors to make it all happen, and was once again pleased by my foresight in stashing the coordinating Fine Sparkle Gems into the DSP pack, lol. Sometimes I really do use the old noggin! Snowy Delights Stamp Set & Dies; Storybook Gnomes DSP; Basic White & Pacific Point (retired) CS; Pacific Point Ink (retired); Pacific Point Fine Sparkle Gems (retired); #IC357. As often happens towards the end of the year for me, I'm checking out a couple new challenges this week to fill in some gaps! I came across Sweet Stampin', and their December "It's Christmas!" challenge first! Yay! I went straight for our Jar of Joy bundle, mostly because it has the "sweetest" sentiment, lol. I had an idea that I wanted to do some angled stripes in DSP across the card front, and thought some beautiful woodgrain might look a little bit like a table maybe, lol. I don't think that really came across, but I do love this darker woodgrain against the Real Red! I layered two jars over that, one for some "sweets," and one for the sentiment. Some Real Red Baker's Twine and a few Peppermint Dots make the perfect finish! Jar of Joy Stamp Set; Country Woods & Take a Bow (retired) DSP; Basic White & Real Red CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Pecan Pie & Real Red Inks; Sweet Jar Builder Punch; Real Red Baker's Twine; Peppermint Dots; #SSDEC. Lol, Shopping Our Stash #563 is called "my sweet embossable you," and I am smitten! Time to dig through my oldest embossing folders! Before I quite got to the back of the bin, I came across my Seabed EF, which retired in 2021. I so love this one, and I don't really remember using it much with my sea-life sets, or that it really went with any suite in particular. Because of this, I didn't seem to use it much! So I pulled it out for today, and matched it with Seaside Notions, which also retired in 2021. I did a lovely background with the folder in the also-retired Seaside Spray over Pretty Peacock, and wrapped it with some old twine I found in my Seaside Spray folder - I think from the Flowers For Every Season suite. I stamped the coral image and a sand dollar onto Basic Beige and smudged them up with a Blending Pen before fussing cut them out. I cut the sentiment with a Textured Notes die, made a little card front arrangement, and finished with some Opal Rounds. So sweet! Seaside Notions Stamp Set (retired 2021); Seaside Spray DSP (retired, on envelope); Basic White, Pretty Peacock, Basic Beige & Seaside Spray (retired); CS; Pretty Peacock & Early Espresso Inks; Blender Pen; Seabed EF (retired); Textured Note Dies; Flowers For Every Season Twine; Opal Rounds; #SOS563. I am so excited to guest again at Farm Quest Challenge #79 - and the theme is "snowy mountains!" Beautiful! As soon as I saw the theme, I knew right away I wanted to use my Mountain Adventure set from 2016! This beauty was the first real "scene-setting" stamp set I think I had, and I have a blast building up landscapes with it to this day! I decided to go less is more a little bit, and not use EVERY landscape element I have, and I tried to stay restrained on the pops of color. The big guns are the playful puff paint touches I added here and there - it really does add to the wintry feel! I can't wait to see what YOU come up with for this snowy theme - I'll see you at the challenge! Mountain Adventure Stamp Set (retired 2016); Basic White & Crumb Cake CS; Memento Tuxedo Black & Shaded Spruce Inks; Pecan Pie, Real Red & Pool Party Blends Markers; Snowfall Accents Puff Paint; #FQCB79. Such a sweet sketch again from Try a Sketch On Tuesday #685! Such a fun layout, and it looked like a great one for the upcoming Friendly Foliage! I paired it with our Perfectly Plaid DSP, and this time featured one of the back sides for my background, with just a pop of traditional plaid in my upper square. I love how these colors coordinate! I added my pretty stems for the lower square, and tacked on the sentiment below that. I then added three of the pink Swirl Dots, as I thought they looked cute with the plaid colors. I really like how this came out! Friendly Foliage Stamp Set & Dies; Perfectly Plaid DSP; Basic White, Mossy Meadow & Calypso Coral CS; Mossy Meadow Ink; Swirl Dots; #TSOT685. So excited for NBUS #81 - the last one of the year! I'm going with another pre-order bundle for today - the fascinating Hope, Love & Joy set! This is a million dollar achiever set by Evie Dipiazza, and it features some very cool "word play:" each of the title words have an "o" in them, which can be replaced by a right-sized image, like I have done with the little planet in my "joy" card today! This phrase made me think of the glorious DSP we have in Everyday Skies, so I chose a joyful sky to float my sentiment over - such a cool effect! I finished with a few Iridescent Pastel Rhinestones in Calypso Coral - I think these might actually be my last three of this - finally! Hope Love & Joy Stamp Set & Dies; Everyday Skies DSP; Basic White & Calypso Coral CS; Cajun Craze & Gray Granite Inks; Balmy Blue & Soft Sea Foam Blends Markers; Calypso Coral Iridescent Pastel Rhinestones; #NBUS81. |
