This week's Nacho Average Sketch #165 is a fun layering play! Think I'll take another opportunity to get away from the relentless holiday card making I've been doing, lol.
Aaaand, reminder to myself that this is the gardening season once again here in Arizona! Got the peas in today, and the new herbs set - yay! All my tomatoes are sprouting again, and I have several little eggplants forming. Should be a tasty winter. I plan on giving away basil cuttings for Christmas this year in some cute little rooting vases I found at World Market. So this stamp set has been on my mind today! This sketch was perfect for what I wanted to highlight... Gift from the Garden Stamp Set; English Garden DSP; Mint Macaron & Whisper White CS; Mossy Meadow, Hello Honey & Cajun Craze Inks; Spring Flowers Embossing Folder; SAB 2015 In Color Buttons in Hello Honey; White Baker's Twine; Banner Punch. I hope you plan on joining us at this week's Fab Friday #76 sketch - isn't it a cutie? I'm pairing it with Stamps, Ink Paper #20's yummy color challenge. So I really do like ALL the leaves in Lighthearted Leaves, I swear I do! I just don't seem to use them so much, lol. Anyway, I was totally inspired by The Crafty Owl on our last challenge, where she picked out some leaf details with her Chalk Marker. I couldn't wait to try this, so I brought it our for our next challenge, lol. I just realized that I picked a lot of the same details to color, but I also added some touches of gold with a gold paint pen I have... I can't wait to see what you have for us over at the challenge this week - come join us! Lighthearted Leaves Stamp Set; Whisper White, Early Espresso & Blushing Bride CS; Early Espresso Ink; White Uni-Ball Gel Pen; Gold Paint Marker; Woodlands Textured Embossing Folder; Leaflets Framelits; Banner & Banner Triple Punches; Gold Cording Trim; Neutrals Buttons in Early Espresso. We have a nice focal sketch at this week's Can You Case It #92! Let's add some sparkle with this week's Merry Monday #177 - add lights and glitter!
I didn't expect to, but this card totally ended up with NO STAMPING (GASP!) I knew I wanted to feature the pretty strings of lights on one of the sheets from Season of Cheer, but I originally planned to float a tree shape over it. Let's just say it didn't look good to me. What to do? Then I remembered my retired Holiday Ornaments Framelits, and realized I could make one look like a light bulb, if I strategically placed some Silver Cording Trim "strings." Have you tried this stuff yet? It is amazingly cooperative on my card fronts so far! I ended up glittering my "merry" by hand before I remembered I had red glimmer paper I could have used, lol. I used it for my "big Bulb" instead, lol... Season of Cheer DSP; Whisper White, Real Red & Smoky Slate CS; Red Glimmer Paper; Dazzling Diamonds and Red Glitter; Christmas Greetings Thinlets; Holiday Ornaments Framelits (retired); Silver Cording Trim. I can't believe this is the last week of My Pumpkin Challenge #1015 - Sweet Harvest! So sad! At least SU-per Challenges #109's Halloween challenge is a natural match to go with!
I decided I haven't been giving that witch hat stamp enough play - and it's a cutie! This card kind of reminds me of that snowman card last year with the stack of hats, but spooky of course, lol. I also played with my new Seasonal Frame thinlets that I didn't even get the stamp set for - I just wanted these words! So show us your last pumpkin for the month - only one more week til the next challenge! Wickedly Sweet Treat Paper Pumpkin; plus, Happy Haunting DSP; Very Vanilla, Tangelo Twist and Blackberry Bliss CS; Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, Memento Tuxedo Black, Tangelo Twist, Mossy Meadow & Blackberry Bliss Inks; Lots of Labels Framelits; Seasonal Frame Thinlets; Tangelo Twist Striped Satin Ribbon. A nice spooky sketch from Retro Sketches #187 this week, but I think I'll lighten it up a bit today with Just Add Ink #285's spring-y colors!
I've been eyeing my Build a Birthday stamp set for a couple weeks now. It's been so all-halloween-all-the-time around here, I really wanted to get away from that for a bit, lol. A birthday card just fits that bill! I was worried that a full-size cake stand might be a bit too big for this sketch, so I did some trimming: I snipped off the two end scallops on the cake stand, and then shortened my cake layers accordingly. Pretty cool trick if I do say so myself! I also snuck in a piece of my Pretty Petals stack - yes I know, it's Very Vanilla on a Whisper White base, but I figure it's ok if I don't make a habit of it, lol... Build a Birthday Stamp Set; Pretty Petals DSP Stack; Whisper White & Smoky Slate CS; Night of Navy, Mint Macaron, Blushing Bride & Smoky Slate Inks; Cotton Ribbon in Blushing Bride; Basic Jewel Rhinestones. I'll match it with this week's color challenge at Create With Connie & Mary #378. I think these colors will be perfect with TGIF #26's Thankful challenge!
Browsing my thankful stamps, I always come back to Lighthearted Leaves - I so love this set! Today was a good day for coloring, too. I almost added some orange from the TGIF graphic, lol, but I caught myself in time, whew! I played a little bit with layering and the Curvy Corner Trio punch - I wasn't sure it would come out how I hoped, but it worked out perfectly! I'm not sure why, but when I've layered rounded corners in the past, I sometimes had proportion issues - but not this time! To finish off, I added some tiny rhinestones for sparkle - but I still wish we did candy dots in our In Colors! Lighthearted Leaves Stamp Set; Soft Suede & Whisper White CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Soft Suede, Mossy Meadow & Hello Honey Inks; Leaflet Framelits; Note Tag & Curvy Corner Trio Punches; Woodland Textured Embossing Folder; Soft Suede Taffeta Ribbon; Basic Jewel Rhinestones; Stampin' Stapler. Quite the festive design at this week's Freshly Made Sketch #209! I'll match it with the equally festive color challenge over at In{k}spire Me #221!
So, I think this is the day that I'm rolling out the fancy Delicate Ornaments thinlets! So far, I've been playing with the stamps, 'cause they're so awesome, but I knew I'd finally break down and do the intricates sooner or later. So this is the "sooner" card, lol... The gold foil really sings over these colors, and I added a touch of extra texture with the glimmer as well. I did at least stamp the sentiment and envelope, though I definitely considered going ink-less, I do admit. It was fun to add a couple extra touches in gold - I'm totally awed by how rich these thinlets are! Like, instant elevation! Goin' tilty at this week's Sunday Stamps #112! Matching this one up with this week's spooky color challenge at Nacho Average Challenge #164!
Even though I promised myself I was done with Halloween cards for this year, I had to do just ONE more, with this color combo, lol. This time, I wanted to play with Witches' Night, the stamp set that went with our Witching Decor project kit. I really like the dramatic scrollwork! I did a little fussy cutting to highlight a couple details, and threw in my last three black rhinestones from my kit. I even have that little cloud of bats on a vanilla insert on the inside! OK, I'll just put this out there: this week's Retro Sketch #186 reminds me of one of those perky little hats, with the glam fascinators perched on 'em - cuteness! Let's try it out with this week's Can You Case It #91, too!
So greens and browns sent me over to Acorny Thank You, and I have to say, I am SO happy that it did! I'm really pleased with how it came out, and I played with a few things that aren't in my usual lineup, like the Burlap Trim. (Sh, I cut this scrap off the piece for my Season to Season Wreath - I don't even normally HAVE this stuff, lol.) I also had to go all Escher with the dimensionals on this one, trying to get all the little layer pieces to work together, and with only a tiny bit of re-ordering, but still - yay, me! I'm not sure I can put this one in the sale box yet, it's gonna need to stay on my desk for a while... Acorny Thank You Stamp Set; Into The Woods DSP; Whisper White, Early Espresso, Mossy Meadow & Gold Glimmer CS; Early Espresso, Always Artichoke & Soft Suede Inks; Circles Collection & Bitty Banner Framelits; 2 1/2" Circle, Acorn Builder & Banner Triple Punches; White Perfect Accents; colored with Old Olive Blendies (discontinued); Burlap Ribbon. MMR Oktoberfest Fall Market Oct 24!
I hope you'll come and see me at this year's McDowell Mountain Ranch Oktoberfest DCMS PTO Fall Market Fundraiser - a first for me! I'm excited to show at an event that falls BEFORE Halloween - gives me chance to showcase all our spooky goodies! There will be food and drinks, games, a bake sale, raffles, and of course, SHOPPING! The Fall Fun starts Saturday, October 24, 2015, 1-5 pm - at the McDowell Mountain Ranch Community Center, 10607 E Paradise Ln, Scottsdale AZ 85255. Free entry! Click the picture for a printable flyer! I love the "polaroid" look of this week's sketch at SU-per Challenge #108! I think that makes it a perfect match with this week's Merry Monday #176 - Frame It! So, we all knew I was going straight for the Hearth & Home framelits, right? The only question in my mind was what kind of scene would show through the window! I decided to trot out the versatile To You and Yours Too stamp set, that goes with the Shaker Cards Project Kit in this year's Holiday Mini Catty. Fun stuff! I used a marker to make my stag brown after inking all over in Mossy Meadow - not sure why I went all "regals" on these colors, lol. My fave trick with these framelits is to do a two-color window sash, and snip out the panes in a contrasting color - really adds some pop! Quick and fun, just like I like it... To You and Yours Too Stamp Set; Season of Cheer DSP; Night of Navy, Whisper White, Mossy Meadow & Crumb Cake CS; Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso, Night of Navy & Cherry Cobbler Inks; Hearth & Home Framelits; Circle Card Thinlets; Basic Jewel Rhinestones.
