Dragon Tattoo

Ooo, The Library Challenge #25 has an awesome cover for us this week - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!
This one was a hard one for me.  I would have loved to do a pretty oriental dragon, but the only dragons I have are pretty cartoony - which is NOT very GWADT!  So I started thinking about my fave character from this book, Lisbet Salandar.  A total butt-kicker!  I dug out my old Favorite Thoughts set from 2010, which has a few sassy lady quotes in it, and matched it up with the glamour girl from Beautiful You.  It ended up being fairly sparse - Lisbet's character was so no frills, I couldn't think of anything to add.  Anyway, I'm thinking of the closing sequence where Lisbet dresses up and steals all the bad guy's money - such a perfect end to a creep of a guy, lol.  Go, Lisbet.  And never behave.
Favorite Thoughts (retired, 2010) and Beautiful You Stamp Sets; Whisper White & Merry Merlot CS; Memento Tuxedo Black & Merry Merlot Inks; #TLC25.

Desert Sunset

AAA #132 has a fun challenge to encourage the clean and simple style - "up to one third."  What a neat idea - contain the card elements to one third of the card, so that there's two-thirds of lovely "white" space around it!  And if we can fit in masking, too, so much the better!
As I thought about the one-third and masking combo, I envisioned brayering a band of color on the card front, and I pretty quickly landed on a desert sunset for my inspiration.  Our Flowering Desert stamp set is my current all-time fave, I have to say.  I love how we can build any cacti we want out of all the little pieces, AND that we have a nice big saguaro, too - perfect!  So I masked off my central third, and went to town with sunset colors.  I fussy cut my cactus, and did my sentiment in bold black right on the colored band.  I added a few tiny faceted dots in black, too, and then I had to sit on my hands to stop there, lol.  I love extra details a little too much, I think!
Flowering Desert Stamp Set; Whisper White CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody & Cajun Craze Ink; Faceted Dots; #AAA132.

Check out this fun tiled sketch we have for you at Try Stampin' on Tuesday #393!
So, even though we didn't SAY the squares could be any shape, I'm just going to act like we did, lol - gotta go off trail sometimes, right?  I decided I wanted to do 8 of something, and I realized that the pretty X and O heart in our sorely missed Takeout Treats would be perfect - there's even a sweet sentiment to go with!  And of course, the Takeout Thinlits have the heart shape included, along with that cute little 3D banner - I love it when a plan comes together!
So, what will YOU create??  Can't wait to check it out over at the challenge!
Takeout Treats Stamp Set (retired); Whisper White & Basic Black CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay & Gorgeous Grape Inks; Takeout Thinlits; #TSOT393.

We have another fun sketch this week from In{k}spire Me #384 - check out that bold center column!
Lucky for me, I have a little stack of new stamps to play with, and one of them is the suite for Needle & Thread!  There's paper, stamps, framelits, embellies, whew - I love it when there's lots of toys, lol...  I kept this one pretty calm color-wise, there are some bright patterns in the papers, but I did try out the piercing piece that came in the framelits - doesn't that make a pretty detail??  I love the realistic effect of the stamps, too - time to start a stitching project, maybe, lol.
Needle & Thread Stamp Set; Needlepoint Nook DSP; Whisper White & Pear Pizzazz CS; Mossy Meadow, Crushed Curry, Highland Heather & Berry Burst Inks; Needlepoint Elements Framelits; #IM384.

We have some glorious pinks and reds for you this week at Sunday Stamps #197 - just in time to get ready for Valentine's!
So, surprise, surprise - somehow I didn't get any new Valentine's sets!  So I switched gears and pulled out my Ribbon of Courage set - I've never used this floral ribbon before.  I pulled out all my pink Blends Markers, and went to town - so fun!  I kept the card front fairly clean and simple - lots of white space!  Then I remembered that I have my old style enamel shapes in a drawer, and I still have every heart on those sheets, lol, so out they came, too.  Love the final card - pretty sweet!
I can't wait to see what YOU have for us over at the challenge - see you over at Sunday Stamps!
Ribbon of Courage Stamp Set; Whisper White & Melon Mambo CS; Memento Tuxedo Black Ink; Melon Mambo, Lovely Lipstick, Flirty Flamingo Petal Pink & Pink Pirrouette (retired) Blends Markers; Support Ribbon Framelits; Brights & Subtles Enamel Shapes (retired); #SSC197.

Foil Rectangles

As You See It #192 has an exciting theme this week - metallics!  Time to shine!
I might actually have gone a bit overboard with my metallics idea today, lol - who knew I had so many colors of foils??  I wanted to do something pretty abstract, and make all different rectangles with our amazing Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  I played around with arranging them so there was loose geometry going on, and then I popped on this sentiment from Flowering Desert.  I few Faceted Dots, and a couple sprigs, and I'm all done!  Yes, the only reason I have the sprigs is so I had something I could do on the envelope, too, lol.
Flowering Desert Stamp Set; Red, Silver, Black, Gold, Champagne & Copper Foil; Whisper White CS; Memento Tuxedo Black Ink; Rectangle Stitched Framelits; Faceted Dots in Black; #AYSI192.

Very nice - Hand Stamped Sentiments #306 has a gorgeous purple and green color challenge for us - my fave!
As I browsing for a likely stamp set to play with, my latest order arrived - woo hoo!  Unpacking that, my eyes kept going back to the sweet new Valentine's set I treated myself to, Hey Love.  Yes, the otter and the gorilla will be big hits, but I decided that flirting crocodile would be perfect for these colors!  I aqua-painted my way along, and added a few details - I think the new Dot to Dot embossing folder looks just like crocodile skin, and that Scallop Oval Punch piece missing on the side is meant to look like a croc bite - does it work??
Hey Love Stamp Set; Whisper White & Petal Pink CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Mossy Meadow, Fresh Fig & Petal Pink Inks; Dot to Dot EF; Scallop Oval Punch (retired); Basic Sequins in Petal Pink; #HSS306.

Good times!  Retro Rubber #102 is back, kicking off 2019 with a black and white color challenge!
I really browsed for a while looking for a likely set to play with for this one!  I don't often do black and white arrangements - I'm one to throw on at least one color to highlight something, lol.  Eventually, I landed on TWO sets I could work in here!  World Map was a short-lived background stamp from 2013 - I loved it!  I hoarded "map" DSP for a long time til this beauty came out, lol.  My sentiment is from a lovely 2016 set called Going Global, that I always thought of as kind of Valentine-y.  I figured this phrase was perfect for the map background!  I added some Black Metallic thread, too, since it was still on my desk from butterfly antennae, lol.  What a fun project to make!

Joy of Flowers

Well, a couple of my TSOT teamies have pointed me to a new challenge blog they have going called Joy of Sets!  This is their first tic-tac-toe challenge - can't wait to play!
I decided I wanted to play with florals today, so I chose the die cut-floral-bling column, and decided to knock out some of my elements with the gorgeous Petal Palette set.  I did the large spray of flowers, and colored in with my fave green and purple color combo, and floated everything over one of our gorgeous woodgrain sheets.  I finished with a few scattered and different-sized rhinestones for my bling - I love how this came out!  Kind of country wedding-ish!

Good times ahead - check out our fun sketch at Try Stampin' on Tuesday #392, love the big borders!
I cheated a little on the square shape, though, and floated  a big square on my standard card base.  To make up for it, I DID manage to slip in the secondary metallics challenge - something I almost NEVER pull off, lol.  I'll be honest, too, today is the first day I even noticed this sentiment in Love You to Pieces - I'm always stuck on the "keeping me together" one!  I liked this narrower one under my square...
So, what will YOU create??  See you over at the challenge!
Love You to Pieces Stamp Set; Twinkle Twinkle DSP; Whisper White, Smoky Slate, Pool Party, Soft Sea Foam, Petal Pink & Silver Metallic CS; Night of Navy Ink; Puzzle Pieces Thinlits; Silver Sequins; #TSOT392.
