 I can see SO many ways to go with this cute sketch from SU-per Challenge #114 - I think I'll try it with Just Add Ink #290's fresh color challenge! OK, I want to do a better job balancing the sketch elements with the color challenge this round, lol, so I chose my stamp set carefully! I went looking for something that I thought could show these colors in a realistic way, and it turns out that Butterfly Basics is PERFECT for both the colors AND the sketch! Yes! I was a little worried about the white spaces left over, but I'm leaving them as is - I think I have a case of Christmas-over-embellish-itis that'll take a while to recover from, lol...  Here's a cute sketch to work on from Freshly Made Sketch #214! Adding in this week's In{k}spire Me #226 seems like a perfect match! I felt inspired by the trees on In[k}spire Me's challenge line today, and wanted to show something simple and introspective. I realized what I wanted to do was pair some new words with my "peace" thinlet from Christmas Greetings. John 14:27 says it all, don't you think? That's what I thought of as I made this card today. A perfect start to our joyous season...  This cute sketch from Nacho Average Challenge #169 looks like a window! Love it! I'll be trying this one with SIP #24's colors! So what do I do first thing?? Throw out the window idea, of course! I decided I wanted to play with some shapes, and I spent a lot of time trying out various ornaments to see what would fit. I finally settled on these little guys from my Keepsake Ornaments set - just right! I wasn't really sure I could make a convincing Christmas arrangement with these colors, but I think it passes! I'm a bit ashamed to admit that, um, I haven't touched it since I got back (yikes!) That sure made my choice easy! Then I realized I could stamp the sentiment right on a present! So, here's a funny story about this week's White Christmas theme: I just finished watching this movie FOUR times in two days at a craft show I was participating in this past weekend - good thing it's my fave Christmas movie, lol! The closing scene, where they open the wall, and it's all snowy behind the tree - perfection! So I decided to set my own little winter scene in white on Night of Navy, with just a tiny touch of sparkle. So fun to combine our pretty trees, love it! I was so excited to see this week's Just Add Ink #289 to add music! I'm combining it with Create With Connie & Mary #382's colors for an extra boost! I think I'll use this fun layered sketch from Retro Sketch #191, too... So, here we are. I very carefully thought out what elements I wanted to play with: for music, I pulled out my beloved but retired Rejoicing With You, and I knew I wanted to use gold rather than Delightful Dijon. Then I browsed for some likely Island Indigo DSP. And I played. And flipped things around. And tinkered. And tweaked. And alas, here we still are, lol. So, no point beating around the bush about it - I actually don't like this card that much. I don't think I executed the color challenge very well, or, maybe I just don't dig it that much - ack! Which is surprising, with purple being my favorite color and all. Poor Elegant Eggplant just doesn't get enough play-time, IMO! Anyway, I always promised to put it all out there, the good, the bad, and the less-than-attractive, lol, so that's what I'm doing! Yikes! Be joyful! As soon as I saw thought of putting these three challenges together, I had a direction I knew I wanted to go in. The beautiful spray of flowers in our hostess set Best Thoughts has been my favorite this year! Filling in an embossed version of this one with the sweet pastels of this color challenge was all I thought about, lol. After assembling all that, I decided to see what I could do with the little butterfly, too, which I shaded by going over and over in some areas with the Hello Honey. You know, you really can achieve a lot with just one color! So, with this color combo, you know I headed straight to my Into the Woods DSP! I knew I wanted to use this pretty painted background, and I had a piece of Old Olive already stamped with our old Woodgrain background stamp that I used for my tag. A little leafy action, a touch of aqua-painting, and we are home free! And all in my favorite colors, ahhh, life is good!
