 Holy smokes, check out this glorious beachy cookie at If You Give a Crafter a Cookie #219! Game on! I went hunting through the retired shelves for a set I haven't used in a while - I feel like I've been making a lot of beach cards lately, lol. I quickly settled on Seaside Bay - I've always loved the quiet "Eastern Shore" kind of feel to this one! I dug out a pack of By the Bay DSP, too, and pulled this sheet to set the tone for my colors! I did some torn edge strips of Crumb Cake to resemble dunes, and tucked in some sea grasses in Mint Macaron - I so miss this color! Next up this pretty bivalve with its pearl, and sand piper looking on carefully - gotta be something to eat in there somewhere, right? I floated the matching sentiment over my little scene, and finished my pearl with some Wink of Stella - very shimmery in person!  Wow, the DT is making this scrappy sketch at Try a Sketch on Tuesday #697 look EASY, lol! Gotta try it! OK, I had to really dig in to get this one done - my coloring skills were really put to the test, lol. The first thing I thought was how great this sketch would be for our favorite bear, Pooh! We have all those glorious tag shapes in the Sweet Words & Labels set, there's gotta be something there, and in the vignettes in the DSP! Alas, they all felt too big to me, but then I spotted the tiny version of Pooh flying off with his balloon in one of the Echo Park sets! It had no bees like our DSP does, but I was able to add them from our Sweet Old Friends stamps, and this "looking up" sentiment was JUST right! I had to redo my little scene three times while I worked out the faintest hint of Hydrangea Hue tinting - Mini Blending Brush for the win! I'm seeing a lovely landscape ahead for our sketch this round at Sunday Stamps #388! So, our latest Creativity Now demo event is coming up on Saturday, August 8, and a little perk for demos is the ability to order ahead the main suite that will be used in the demonstrations for a "craft-along." This year there was an extra stamp set as well, free with your registration, so I got that too, though I didn't use it today. This suite will be available as part of the NOVEMBER Online Exclusives, so this is quite a lead time! So here's is a little sneak peek of the Painted Collage collection! I'm pretty fascinated by the collage DSP, and I'm totally excited about the amazing dies that go with the Notes of Collage stamp set - fun times ahead! I think our sketch was made for this one! Any regular reader here will know that I'm a bit of a flower rebel, lol, I DO like them sometimes, but this little sketch just screamed "pool party" to me! Maybe it's because we've opened our pool up already for the summer here in Arizona, and I have new pool floaties on the brain - that could also have something to do with it! Anyway, Splash & Relax bundle was just what the pool doctor ordered! I did up a cool yellow floatie ring, and two beach balls for the little corner action, and then split up the "splash" sentiment to fit the remaining space. Can't believe I free-handed that first try! Such a fun card! I can't wait to see what YOU come up with for this one - dive in with us! Time for another speed challenge at As You See It #373 - and it's all about tulips! Can I do them in 10 minutes or less? I knew right away I wanted to use my favorite tulip set for sure - 2018's Tranquil Tulips! I never get tired of it, even with no dies or punches! It has no sentiments, though, so I pulled the Banner Sayings set, and its punch. I love that you can choose from multiple fonts for the cute little sayings, and then you have a choice of 3 banners with the punch, too! I set up all my stamps on blocks, opened my punch and stood it up for easy grabbing, and set out my layers and envelope. Time to start the clock! I started with the stems and leaves, and immediately realized that I need to re-ink this pad, lol - my other one is in a class set up right now. Oh well! I went to the blooms next, and I had set up the two-step stamps on both sides of their blocks for quick turnaround. Last up was the sentiment in black on a Granny Apple scrap, and on to the punch. Stuck it all together, threw on some Flat Pearls - all done! 5 minutes and 23 seconds - not too shabby! I can't wait to see YOUR speedy tulips (or other bulbs, lol) - meet you at the challenge! I decided to break in my Fern & Flora suite for this one - I just couldn't wait anymore to fussy cut this big beautiful luna moth from the DSP! I did a couple stamped ferns, which I smudged with a Blender Pen, along with a couple diecut stems as well. I plopped that moth right on top, lol. I also had some fun with my sentiment - I made a diagonal background with the pattern stamp in the set, then added the frame before finishing with the sentiment - I'm so happy with the look! There are even some little detail stamps for extra decor on your umbrella! I happened to find this stray cloudy sheet in my Pool Party scraps folder, and I had to dig around to figure out it was from the Sunny Days DSP pack in 2024's Sale-A-Bration. Remind me never to stick unidentified sheets of DSP in the cardstock folders again, OK? Anyway, once I finally figured out what pack it was, I was able to work out some of the coordinating colors to add to my umbrella - how cool does Evening Evergreen look with Pool Party? I love it! After some fiddling and fussing, I settled on this - I'm not entirely happy with the proportions, and I'm still on the fence about close-cut words like this, but hey, this is a warts-and-all blog, lol, so there you have it! I really do find this theme pretty challenging - I have NO schoolhouses or buses in my stamps, so I always end up cobbling together something a little weird, lol. Today, I have advice for the back-to-schooler: sharpen all your pencils, and keep your curiosity fresh! Good advice for life-long learning, anyway, lol. First I did this sweet stack of pencils from our Trusty Tools stamp set, then I stamped and pieced this oversized sentiment from 2015's Adventure Awaits - these fun sentiments have been SO versatile over the years! A few yellow Starburst Sequins finishes it off! Whew, that's a lot of pencils!
