 What a fun recipe card we have for you this round at As You See It #359! Hmm, oranges, dies, flowers - I think I need to pull out the Layers of Beauty bundle again, lol. I've been wanting to try those pretty blossoms in oranges! I pulled a bunch of shades I thought I could use, including Cajun Craze, which I think of as a "burnt" orange, lol. Looking good! The anniversary sentiment in the set has a "happy," so I'm all set there - and it all came to a screeching halt on the "frame," lol. I was flying through, then got bogged down for half an hour trying various framing ideas, sigh. Finally, I narrowed it down to a frame for the sentiment, but how to really nail it? Not sure I managed, but I finally settled on a simple oval frame, and called it good. What a ride! I can't wait to see YOUR beautiful bake-ups with this one - meet you at the challenge!  We have a sweet cameo sketch for you this round at Sunday Stamps #353! Now, usually I totally go for that "any shape" tease, we all know, lol, but when I saw the oval, I thought about all the beautiful diecut pieces in our Wildflower Birthday DSP, and couldn't resist! How about this giant gorgeous cake?? Our anniversary is coming up, I should give hubby a little hint, lol. Anyway, I laid the cake over one of the perfect floral sheets from the pack, added my sentiment, and finished with a few Peach Pie Shimmer Gems - looks pretty tasty to me! I have to say, I am ALWAYS short on Thank You Cards - I always debate if we should do these first after Christmas, lol! Since this challenge is all about the layers, I really wanted to give the Layers of Beauty bundle another go - but this time with more colors! I went with blues, and tried to take my time with the masks, lol. Three layers of blues comes out looking pretty cool, if I do day so myself! AND, I played with the dies more, too, cutting out the total image, and then the highlighted flower separately, to double dimension! So fun! I also snuck in my newly arrived preorder embossing folder, the Eyelet 3D EF. I really like the look! I'm really happy with how this came out! Now to figure out how to do this in a class, lol... Since this is a GUY challenge, I started by looking up hubby's name - Todd. I was surprised to learn that it means "fox" in Old English - now that's something I can work with! By far the cutest fox, BESIDES hubby, lol, that I have is the speedy one on the little moped in my Zoo Crew DSP pack. I also STILL have my Define Your Life set from 2007, and the "T" in that set has the word "together!" Perfect! I decided to make an anniversary card with two of the cute foxes, and color their scarves to show that they're a couple, lol. Is this too obscure? I'm happy with it, but what a strange journey it was! Ooo, I have to admit, I can spot some spooky possibilities on this month's grid at Joy of Sets #022! Instead, I went for the romance, lol. After a bit of browsing, I realized that I just really wanted to use my Serene Silhouettes set - love these images! This one with the umbrella is my favorite, and I kept everything super simple by heat-embossing in black over some pretty DSP. So I went with the diagonal Black - Silhouette - Glitter, and layered everything onto some Black Glimmer paper for the glitter. Simple and pretty - a golden sunset! What's not to love about our big scallop shape at this week's Sunday Stamps #204?? What does it make you think of? For me, I started thinking along the lines of a background-type stamp I could use for the shape, behind some bold picture elements on top. Our Best Birds set fit the bill perfectly - I love this linen-y background element, just right for setting off the lovely branch and birdie! I chose an anniversary sentiment for this one, getting low on those, and tried for simple but realistic coloring. Who's a handsome man? Lol. This is another set that's retiring this year, I've found it to be so versatile, I'll miss it a lot! And actually, something did! I had totally forgotten I had some Blushing Bride Glimmer, and the pretty pink made me start thinking of hearts and love, lol. I've always loved the squiggly heart in the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits, so I pulled out my Sunshine Sayings set to go with. I ended up keeping it pretty simple - two entwined hearts with a "lifetime of love" sentiment - perfect for an anniversary or even Valentine's Day! Yay for sparkle! So, most folks I know have a little junk drawer somewhere - in our house, it's in the kitchen. BUT, I also have a secret one in my craft room - SHH! I throw all kinds of odds and ends - weird little things from the bargain bins at Michael's, stocking stuffer gags, inherited or found objects of curiosity - anything that looks like I might have a funny use for "some day." You can pretend you don't have one, too, if you want. I won't tell, lol. I dug through mine for something wild for this card, and came across a tiny deck of playing cards - I'm pretty sure this was a stocking stuffer joke from a few years ago. Hm, I thought. This could be a fun one. It took me a little bit to think of a good sentiment, and voila - a funny anniversary card. Crazy!  This week we are reprising Clean & Simple #26 - let's go for the triple! These rich colors from Global Design Project #97 will be just right, too! So, I really felt called back to my new favorite stamp set, Beautiful Bouquet - I LOVE the wide variety of sentiments and images, combined with lovely detailed framelits - it's like a one-two-three punch! I even loved it when I had to keep all the flowers the same color, lol! I chose the anniversary sentiment because I so rarely have these cards on hand - time to fix that little problem, too!
