 Here's a fun little sketch from Nacho Average Challenge #143 to play with! So of course that banner shape sent me straight to Perfect Pennants! I don't know about you, I can never have too many birthday cards! I chose a festive paper from my Birthday Bash Specialty DSP, and did some stamping to match! It went really well and quick, til the end. Then I dithered around about half an hour on that bottom right corner... Finally, I colored up some rhinestones with my Night of Navy blendies and stuck them on there. I might go back and take them off, though - grrRRrr! I hate it when I can't make up my mind!  This week's challenge at Merry Monday #160 is SO COOL! To use newsprint! What a great idea - now to do it justice! So trying to feature the newsprint suggests some colors to me right off the bat - vanilla, black and simple touches of Cherry Cobbler. I kinda felt like I was in the Chopped kitchen, lol - did I really TRANSFORM the ingredient?? Hard to say, I guess, but I'm happy with the results! I used my Little Letters Thinlets (yay!) in some silver glimmer, than decided to offset those with touches of black in back. I used the extra twig from Beauty of the Season to create a larger branch coming down from the upper left corner, which let me color some berries for my tiny touches of red. Different sized rhinestones add some sparkly movement. Very picturesque! I'm so glad we have a color challenge this week at Fab Friday #65 - it gives me more chances to experiment with my "kissing" technique, lol... No, that doesn't mean what you THINK it means - it's a bona fide stampin' technique, I promise! The idea is, you ink up a fairly solid or filled image with one color, and then either "kiss off" some of the ink with a patterned stamp, or "kiss on" the pattern in a darker ink. I have to admit, it doesn't sound very mannerly when I put it like that, snicker. For today's card, I inked up my sentiment "bubble" with Hello Honey, and stamped on a pattern in both Marina Mist and Night of Navy. Then I did the center one with just Marina Mist and Night of Navy. I think that one came out best... A quick zig-zaggy background, and I was set! So let's see your colors this week - and join us at Fab Friday! I had a tough time picking out which two In Colors I wanted to use - I so wanted to add a third! I managed, though, lol. It was easy to pick Coastal Cabana first - I will MISS this color, sigh. I also decided to use another sentiment from the preview Friendly Wishes set - so cheery! I flipped around the element order a tiny bit, added a few details - and voila! Quick and cute! The colors? The flowers? The layering? Let's go with the flowers: I haven't done as much with the Painted Petals set as I thought I would... I ended up sort of recreating the inspiration picture, I think, lol. I kept it simple and clean, and had some fun with some fresh spring colors. I also used my "off-label" version of the stamps for the flowers, so I could break the clusters up a bit more - remember the little fuss when this set was first released? It actually worked out better for me today, lol... Think I'll see what comes of pairing it with this week's elegant sketch at Freshly Made Sketches #187! I had a challenging time making decisions on this one, I have to say right up front. Somehow, I had difficulty getting these colors to play nice together (!!!), which is bizarre because they're so awesome! In any event, I also tried to scan the shelves for anything left that might have still not gotten ink before retirement - and I realized I had skipped over Lovely Romance! Eek! I had some white-space-panic tremors again, but I think I stayed calmer this time, lol. Turning the sketch sideways helped, too... Ooo, I'm totally psyched about this week's Merry Monday #159 - to use a "non-evergreen" tree! Love it! Choices, choices... OK, it's gonna have to be Partridge & Pears, lol. I'm having SUCH a week, I really need some coloring time, lol. And maybe a glass of wine. Or two. You get the idea! So, I'm not knocking anyone else's choices, but I also decided to color with the now-discontinued Blendabilities today. Somehow, my entire collection is NOT defective, at least, not so far, lol. So what the heck, I kept 'em. Blendies were my first and only experience with alcohol markers, and really expanded my horizons. I continue to hope that SU! is able to find a product that works for them again, and I'll use these til they die the marker death, I guess, lol... Hm, that didn't come put very merry, did it? Sorry about that! This image is also a blast to color with our regular markers, and the aqua-painter, too, which I also enjoy doing...
