 AAA #134 has another cool combo for us this week - keep your clean and simple design in one corner, and add in a musical twist if you can. Nifty! I tried to keep the card as spare and simple as I could, though I ended up going for some pretty layers - but no bling!! These guys are determined to drag me kicking and screaming into clean and simple by hook or by crook, and I think it's working, lol! A quick survey confirmed that I have NO music sets - isn't that crazy?? Then I thought to check my scripture sets, and sure enough, this beauty from Psalm 69 leapt out. I stamped it over some pale leaves and flowers (that other flower just snuck out there, I swear I don't know what happened, lol) and kept it at that. Now THIS is how to make music!  This week's As You See It #194 has a cool "fill in the blank" challenge - "When I think simple, I think ____." Nifty! To get started, I wanted to pull a set that hasn't been out to play for a bit, and landed on High Tide - love this lighthouse. So, when I think simple, I think one-layer, with stamps, ink and paper. This set has SO many options for setting your scene, it's hard to leave much free space to be really "clean & simple" maybe, but with everything all on one layer, I DO think of it as "simple." I used plenty of colors, but they're also muted a little on my Sahara Sand base - perfect for a beach scene, lol. I think I might have sand on the brain just now - three more days til Hawaii! I went back to the vault for today, and pulled out my all-time fave baby set - Baby Bundle from 2011! I just love the line-art images in this set, so perfect for coloring any way we want. There are a ton of adorable little baby accessories, too, including a super cute onesie on a hanger! When my daughter was small, onesies were our fave "outfit," perfect for desert living, too, lol. I took my colors from the gorgeous Twinkle Twinkle DSP, and just followed the sketch pretty closely. Ahhh, baby cuteness! I so can't wait to see your Retro creations, I sure hope you'll come play! I tell you, this Sale-A-Bration foil has really helped me see the light on Lovely Lipstick now, and the Grapefruit Grove, though I didn't use that one today. Anyway, this stamp set makes it so easy to make pretty kitties! Love it! I decided to roll with it and pulled out the ever amazing Waterfront set - these stamps are just phenomenal for building water-scape scenes of all kinds! I tried for a little island floating in a gorgeous sunset - all kinds of strategic stamping and stamping off going for this one! I wouldn't normally think of these colors together, but they definitely have a tropical vibe going on - I'm counting the hours at this point, lol. So, what will YOU do with these colors? I landed on Bubble Over - still LOVE this set! I decided the bottles would be perfect for the oval shape in the sketch, so I went to town making up a couple of cold ones, lol. I still have some hoarded Bubbles & Fizz DSP, so I took my colors from that, and had a time designing my own "bottle labels!" With all those bubbles popping on my DSP, I decided I didn't really need any extra bling, but these happy colors are certainly cheering me up today! I'm going with Butterflies-Green-Textured Embossing - and I know just the set I want to use! 2009's God's Beauty is actually currently in my for sale box (only $5 if you're interested!) but I have always loved the butterfly in this set, along with the Emerson quote! I feel like the butterfly is so realistic, and it's so easy to color while keeping that butterfly detail. I did a nice Layered Leaves background, and covered it in speckle from Waterfront - somehow my spritzers seem to have walked away - time to check hubby's work bench I think, lol. Anyway, I'm super happy with this card, and reminded again how much I love this set! I also went with this sentiment I built from teh Paper Pumpkin All About Everything set - very romantic, as the book seems to be, and I love the font to go with these fancy pens - I could imagine writing this with a good fountain pen myself, lol. I kept the design pretty clean and simple, with just a few touches of color, though I did add a few hearts! I think this one will go in the Valentines! After looking over the grid, I decided to start from a weird place for me - I picked a square, and then tried to figure out which way I'd go with it. Today I picked "emboss," and decided to do the vertical from there - glimmer-emboss-white. Easy peasy! I browsed through my EFs, and landed on the retired Pretty Print, which I've always thought looked romantic, lol. From there I pulled out another retired goody, Valentine Defined - I love this tree! I snuck in some glimmer by punching some red glimmer hearts for some additional detail - it looks sweet, I think! As soon as I saw our optional theme of "flower fun," I knew I wanted to try out our brand new Country Floral Dynamic Embossing Folder. This beauty is in the second wave of Sale-A-Bration releases, and I snapped it up right away! The dynamic folders give such a deep emboss - so much detail! The flyer showed a piece of the emboss colored, and I immediately knew I would be trying that - here it is! I wanted it to be bright and bold, but really, I think the softer colors are better for this technique. I went to town with my blends, as usual, and I think it was fairly successful - I'm thinking I might need more practice - but it was FUN - and that was the idea!
