My Super Beetle

I'm super excited today to play for the first time at a new (to me!) challenge I found - let's give a go to Time Out Challenges #165 - "days gone by" is the theme!
I really dithered over this one - "days gone by" is a phrase that has so many levels of meaning for me, lol.  I decided to go with something a bit more personal, so here I commemorate my first car - a 1971 pine green Super Beetle, patchy oxidized paint and all, lol.  I swear, if you rubbed your fingers on it, they came away green!  I spent so many hours trying to fix that with rubbing compound, I never did notice that it did anything for it, lol.   This baby cost me $200, and my Dad had me help him rebuild the engine - a piston head had snapped off and chewed a hole in one of the pistons, quite a clean-up job.  I'm not sure I was really much help, but I did learn my first car care lessons on this thing.  How to change a tire (always crack the lug nuts BEFORE you jack up the car!) and how to change the oil (drive around the block to warm up the engine so the oil runs out better, and rub a little oil on the new filter gasket for a better seal, finger-tighten ONLY!)  What a journey - who knew our new Just Jade is the same color as my old bug??

Critter Crazy Class, Saturday June 11, 3 pm
