Gift From the Garden

Oh, good times, the Sisterhood of Crafters has an April Showers theme for this week!
So when I think of April Showers (which the Sisters ASKED us to do, lol) I can't help but think of the garden, because this is when I get to set aside all the planning and dreaming and get to DOING! Here in Arizona, this actually starts closer to March 1, but now we're here in April, everything is going gang-busters, and I'm out watering and fussing every day, sometimes multiple times! I love seeing everything coming up - super excited about my potato towers this year, and my artichoke jungle, lol. What's in YOUR garden??

Apron of Love

I'm so excited that Paper Craft Crew #333 is having a two-week challenge for their sketch this week - it gives me a chance to get in on the fun!
As I was browsing my stamp shelves (eee! almost time for new catty, new stamps coming!!) I got to thinking about how well the Apron of Love set could creatively address the shapes on the sketch. And you know how I get as soon as I have a thought like that! I wanted something sunny and fresh - how about a gingham apron, in Daffodil Delight?? I'm loving this bright and light card, and I added just a couple details to keep the eyes moving. I think I need to go bake something now, lol!

Hand Stamped Love

Wow, Hand Stamped Sentiments #312 has a fun and bright color challenge for us this week - so fresh!
Today I pulled out the Love What You Do set - I really love this washy background stamp, so perfect for setting off the cute detail stamps and sentiments that are also part of this set! I figured this was a good way to have just a TOUCH of Call Me Clover in there, because, well, shh, I haven't really warmed to this color yet, lol. This was a good challenge for me to stretch, since really all three of these colors aren't in my usual rep! A few flowers, and few fronds - whew, I think I pulled it off!

Rainbow Peeps

Sunny days ahead! Retro Rubber #108 is bringing on the rainbow!
So how about those peeps?? 'Tis the season! My little secret vice (if I still ate sugar - whew!) is actually marshmallow peeps. Don't get me wrong, I do like the chicks, too, especially when they're dipped in chocolate on the bottom - that's the only king I like fresh! The best way is to actually rip open the package a little and let them dry out just a tad, so all the sugar coating is nice and crunchy - you can practically FEEL your teeth rotting in your head!! Anyway, I also like the marshmallow bunnies, and that they come in all the fun colors. Today I made them in all our new brights - the NEW SU! rainbow, lol. Maybe I should make a peep wreath since I don't eat them anymore, so I can at least have them around, lol. The javalinas would LOVE that!

Needle and Thread

Time for our mix it up challenge this month at Try Stampin' on Tuesday #404!
I don't know about you, but I found these colors to be a real challenge. I scrapped my ideas and started over three times! I finally hit on the winning combo when I came across my Needle & Thread suite - love this stitch-patterned DSP! A simple floral medallion over the top and I was finally happy, lol. I even have a few Mint Macaron Faceted Dots for a touch of sparkle.

Once again, Fusion has pulled out the stops to give us another great inspiration and sketch combo - they're calling it "cheery eggs," lol.
So, as I sit here typing up this post, I have to laugh at where I've ended up for this card. I've had so much white white white the last few days, all I could think was, let's do some pretty paper today! Oo, let's get out that Painted Seasons DSP (which I now have like 6 packs of, sigh) and oo again, now's my chance to really do something with that pretty Christmas paper, and play with that pine cone, and, and, and - you see where I'm headed here? That right there is how I went from an intended Easter card, to a Christmas card, sigh. But I DO love this paper, lol.

1-2-3 Butterfly

Yet again Back to Basics #25 is offering up a technique I've not really done before - a 1-2-3 card! The idea is that I follow a "recipe" - 1 topper, 2 colors and 3 gems or jewels. Cool!
So this was actually kinda tough for me - do I know what a card "topper" is? Does it mean extra layers? A floating shape? I took a chance and did both, hoping that woudl qualify, lol. I also pulled out my In This World set - I've been working a lot lately on butterfly cards, so it leapt out at me that here's another butterfly, that I don't think I've ever even used, lol! Crazy! I let my pretty bug be the color focus, with Calypso Coral and Pineapple Punch, because I had some Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots I could work in for my "jewels." Whew, did I tick all the boxes?

We Just Fit

Well, I'm feeling spiffy with Inspire Create #40's black and white challenge!
I thought for a bit, and decided the contrast of the black and white puzzle pieces together would be a perfect showing. So crisp! I stacked sets together to add some dimension to the pieces, and also added a few black sequin highlights. Super simple and understated - the little black (and white!) dress of cards, lol.

Time for another fun sketch over here at Fab Friday #161 - how about some landscape layers??
I decided to pull out a background stamp today - I never seem to use these as much as I think I will! I thought this music would be lovely, and then I created a frame with our awesome Stitched Rectangles - love all these nesting shapes! I stuck with my fave purple and green combo, and used markers to ink up my face sentiment from Part of My Story - this was such a great SAB set! So, what will YOU create? Oh my goodness, check the adorable cover on this edition of Mary Poppins over at The Library Challenge #30! The cutest!
All those pretty colors made me go dig out my old Neighborhood Wheel, so I could make some cute houses for my card, too! I added on an umbrella for Ms. Poppins, and a quick word of encouragement. I think this has turned out to be a quirky and pretty topical card, but I loved this book (and the movie!) so much! Had to take a try at this one! Not even close to "practically perfect," but such fun to make!
