Doesn't this week's Nacho Average Challenge #79 look like a southwestern sunset? I think so! I therefore decided to do a 180 from that color scheme - cool blues and greens are in order! I have so loved the patterns in the Venetian Romance DSP, and the colors, yet I haven't found much occasion to use it, sigh... Lucky it pairs so well with this stamp set - I love how organic it comes out, a nice touch for a simple sympathy card, hopefully... Simply Sketched Stamp Set; Venetian Romance DSP; Very Vanilla, Soft Suede & Pistachio Pudding CS; Soft Suede, Pistachio Pudding & Tangerine Tango Inks; 2" & 2 1/4" Circle Punches; Basic Jewel Pearls.

We received an email from our vet's office this weekend that the beloved office cat, who has served as pet ambassador for all the time we've known them, passed away from his long bout with cancer. He was such a sweet cat. He slept on the counter (or the phone, or the keyboard) but was always up for a chin scratch and a snuggle. He was endlessly curious about everyone who came through the doors, whatever species! So good for our excitable canine hoard as well, he was always totally calm, even when he needed to deliver a corrective nose-swat to the overly familiar. We'll miss you, Mac. Go with love. C Is For Cat (retired) stamp set; Whisper White, Raspberry Ripple & Crushed Curry CS; Eastern Elegance DSP; Smoky Slate & Crushed Curry inks; Houndstooth Embossing Folder; 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" Circle Punches; Crushed Curry Baker's Twine (from Tag A Bag Kit.) This week's dramatic sketch at Paper Craft Crew #63 gave me a chance to ink up another new stamp set - the hostess set Simply Sketched. The main thing that caught my eye with these stamps was the gorgeous images - just right for coloring! For today's card, I couldn't decide which one I wanted to use, but the sketch let me trot out all three - gorgeous! Always good to make sympathy cards in a island of calm - I never seem to have them when I could use one, sigh. Simply Sketched stamp set; Pear Pizzazz, Perfect Plum & Very Vanilla CS; Soft Suede, Pear Pizzazz & Perfect Plum inks; Pretty Print embossing folder; Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border, Large Oval, 1 3/8" & 1 1/4" Square punches; Pear Pizzazz Taffeta ribbon. Don't forget to RSVP for October's "Welcome" Banner Class, Thursday October 24 at 630 pm, or Friday October 25 at 10 am, both chez Heroldt! Save your spot today! All I could think about for this week's Clean & Simple #257 was how to show that graceful curved edge in a different way other than adding paper or piercing to the bottom of the card. What if I could show that curve with a natural shape, make that the focus? I knew I could do it with the beautiful Sunflower image. I sized the card down to a square to make the proportions line up a bit better, and after a bit of coloring, left it pretty spare, just right for a sympathy card. I so rarely have these on hand when needed, but it seemed to fit... Sunflower & Loving Thoughts stamp sets; Crumb Cake & Whisper White CS; Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzazz, Early Espresso & Black Staz-On inks; Basic Jewel Pearls; 7/8" Square punch, for flagging the banner. This week's Clean & Simple #253 gave me the idea to look for different shapes I could group together again - there were so many possibilities, it was hard to pick just one! I ended up with butterflies for circles! I also felt like this might be a gently cheering card for condolence as well, which led me to the sentiment I used. I seem to be really stuck on these springy colors these days - hm... I do have gardening on the mind! Best of Butterflies, Blessings From Heaven & Secret Garden stamp sets; Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral, So Saffron & Whisper White CS & inks; Butterfly (retired) & Corner Rounder punches; Beautiful Wings Sizzlet; Basic Jewel Rhinestones. Recently, our dear friend Agnes approached me about making her some cards to share, celebrating the memory of her husband, also our dear friend, Richard. I can't believe we have been without him for a year now, and even now, I see something almost every day that I think I want to share with him, or talk to him about, and am reminded anew that that's all on hold now. I was so flattered (and intimidated!) when Agnes asked for my help! We talked about what images were important to her memories, and about Richard's use of the phrase "Just another day in paradise..." which was his response whenever we called to see how he was doing - so like him! Our discussions yielded this card, and afforded me some time for myself to say goodbye once again. More than this, though, I was really struck by the sense I had of Richard while I worked on these, and how strengthened I feel in my conviction that I will see him again, and that he waits for all of us. In paradise. Fishin' (Retired) & Woodgrain stamp sets; Always Artichoke, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake & Very Vanilla CS; Manchester (Retired) DSP; Cajun Craze, Soft Suede, More Mustard, Always Artichoke, Early Espresso & Crumb Cake inks; Aqua-Painter; Word Window & Modern Label punches. (Sentiment produced on laser printer.) This week's Freshly Made Sketch #70 had me rooting again through my stamps for anything I hadn't used in a while - and then I found Blissful Bird, which I hadn't used at ALL! Oops... Something about the bird made me think of an encouragement or sympathy card, so that's the direction I went with it - I do so much better working on my sympathy cards when I don't have an event on hand I need them for, so that I can really concentrate then on what I want to say IN the card at those times... I find these blues and greens with gray soothing as well - hopefully this will languish in my stash for a while, but it's good to have standing by! Blissful Bird & Loving Thoughts stamp sets; Baja Breeze, Basic Gray & Whisper White CS; Urban Garden (retired) DSP; Bird Builder punch; Elegant Lines embossing folder; Baja Breeze seam binding ribbon. Creating cards for my friends and loved ones when I hear of tragedy in their lives is always bittersweet. I hope to offer comfort, support, a reminder of God's love and plan for us - "He knows things that we know not." My dear, dear friend, know that my prayers and thoughts are with you, now and always. Lovely As A Tree & Blessings From Heaven stamp sets; Early Espresso, Old Olive & Very Vanilla CS; Adorning Accents edgelit & embossing folder; self-adhesive pearls; 1/8" Taffeta ribbon in Old Olive. Thanks to Retro Sketch #31, for the layout. OK, I'm in a groove - catching up with my sketches! This one is from Retro Sketch #27 - and I had to turn it sideways! I really love this Take Care stamp set - the sayings are so simple, and so lovely, and I really love the font - I hope they do a whole alphabet in this! Take Care stamp set; Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Crumb Cake & Whisper White CS; Pawsitively Prints II DSP (retired); ruffled ribbon in Pool Party; Linen Thread. Aaaah, another blatant CAS, this time from the faboo Dawn Griffith. At least this time I swapped a lot of the elements out! I'm going to drop this one in the "sympathy" box. What's really funny to me about this card, is, back when it was still called "Kraft," Crumb Cake CS was my go-to cs for card bases - I just couldn't stay away! After it made its leap to official-dom as Crumb Cake, I slowed way down on using it, so strange. This card is actually the first time I cracked open my Crumb Cake ink ever! Crazy! Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake and Whisper White CS; Tiny Tags, For All You Do and Because I Care (retired-Hostess) stamp sets, Elegant Bouquet embossing folder, self-adhesive pearls. |
