So, I was going through my retired DSP stash last night, trying figure out if I'm making any progress on thinning out the herd. I noticed that my pack of Autumn Spice only had one full sheet left (Yes! Progress!) along with some long strips. For some reason, these strips were already scored for turning into medallions - I think it must have been leftover from a shadow box we did a couple years back. So I decided to see how many medallions I could get out of it, and figured I would play with the pieces in the morning - maybe a wreath or something would come out of it. Then the Clean & Simple #213 sketch arrived, and I thought - hey, I bet I could really clear this pack out! Thus the little scripture set above was born. I plan to pack these in clear envelopes stamped with a white Staz-On cross, but they'd still be a bit bulky to mail. Might need to be for hand-delivery only! Well, I still have jars on the brain - everything's still out from designing next week's class, so when I saw this week's Freshly Made Sketch #57, I knew I wasn't done with them yet! The idea for this card grew out of something I'd seen for a while - making candy corn by stacking circles in appropriate colors, and then cutting up into wedges to make the "corn." I've wanted to do that for a while, and now I have a perfect little jar to put them in! Some escaped, though... Happy Boo Day - getting close! Perfectly Preserved & Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp sets; Lucky Limeade, Elegant Eggplant & Whisper White CS; Brights & Neutrals DSP packs; Cannery & Labels Collection framelits; Lacy Brocade embossing folder; Lucky Limeade ruffled ribbon; neutral brads; Word Window, Fancy Label, 1 3/8", 1" & 7/8" Circle punches. I can not TELL you how relieved I am that the Jar Class is finally here! It has taken everything I have to keep pacing myself, and even so, I have like 6 more projects we COULD do - I had to settle for these three! First up is a gorgeous (if I do say so myself) fall luminary antique jar, with ribbons and leaves galore! Next is a modern "wide-mouth" jar (I'm going to start using that phrase more, I swear) filled with 2 each of 5 different tags, JUST for using on "jarred" gifts. Well, ok, you could use them on other gifts, too, but I'm telling you, this project and a case of jam jars could really set you up! And then, if you're not too tuckered, a simple card featuring a sweet blossom in a jar vase - quick and charming! (And oh-my-stars I can't wait for you to see your treats! EEEeeeEEEeee!) So, class is one week away, Thursday, October 25, 6:30 pm at my house. Make sure to RSVP, so I can keep the "jar count" going! Bring your favorite paper snips and basic adhesive, I should have everything else you'll need, and will have yummy snacks, too! See you soon! Wow-howdy! This Retro Sketch #33 was a super toughie for me! I wanted to do something different, something cool, something fresh, and I had to think about this sketch for three days to think of some different ways I could do it - there will be some warm up cards coming later! I decided since I don't use the stamp set enough, I should break Sweets out again - remember the lollipop card? These pinwheels are from that same set - too cool! Sweets for the Sweet & Deseos pequenitos (Teeny Tiny Wishes) stamp sets; Barely Bananas (retired), Baja Breeze & Whisper White CS; Patio Party DSP; Midnight Muse, Primrose Petals & Lucky Limeade inks; Adorning Accents edgelit & embossing folder; 1/8" Taffeta ribbon in Baja Breeze; Ultra mini brads. I really liked the possibilities in this week's Clean & Simple #212 sketch! Off kilter lines can lead to some really visually interesting shapes... For today's color combo, I went to my handy-dandy Color Coach - and chose from the "Sweet Set," too - prolly not the first thing people think of when they think of me, LOL... Anyway, I'm finding the Color Coach super helpful when I'm in a color rut (which is usually some version of purple and green, oh well! I tried!) Button Buddies & Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp sets; Raspberry Ripple & Whisper White CS; Perfect Plum, Crumb Cake & Old Olive DSP from their respective collections; taffeta ribbon in Crumb Cake; Perfect Plum button from the subtles collection; Lacy Brocade embossing folder; Scallop Circle punch. I'm not going to soften this - my heart SANK when I saw another color challenge at Fab Friday #4. I think I'm TERRIBLE at these. At least I did until today. On the field of color challenges, I think I acquitted myself pretty darn OK, for a change! And they were weird ones! Not only that, I did it while playing with a stamp set that is totally outside my usual style zone, too. Yay, me! And yay, Fab Friday, for helping me stretch AGAIN! Affection Collection, From My Heart & A Fitting Occasion stamp sets; Island Indigo, Midnight Muse, Summer Starfruit & Whisper White CS & inks; Lacy Brocade embossing folder, Modern Label punch; self-adhesive rhinestones. So, my small group bible study group started back up again this past Sunday, after a long dry summer when most folks here in AZ try to get away from the heat. I have been spending some time reflecting on how my formation studies have become SUCH a part of my life - we use a method of study called "The Art of Engaging Holy Scripture," and our first study this session is Ephesians - what a celebration of Good News! This sentiment from Psalm 130 really struck me this week, now that we're back in "class" again. God's Peace to you all, my friends. Inspired By Nature (retired) stamp set; Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Early Espresso & Very Vanilla CS; Festival of Prints DSP; Woodgrain embossing folder; Our Daily Bread Scripture Collection 9. Well, I wasn't entirely satisfied with yesterday's rendition of Clean & Simple #211. So I decided I needed to take another crack at it! I also STILL have a set of Julie's that I hadn't tried yet - but, no time like the present! I don't do too many baby cards, but dang there are some CUTE stamps out there for them! More people I know need to start crankin' out the infants, in my opinion! I'm so much happier with this take on the sketch, and the color challenge - yay! Moving Forward & Sweet Essentials stamp sets; Pool Party, Whisper White, Wild Wasabi & Certainly Celery CS; Wild Wasabi, Chocolate Chip & Certainly Celery inks; Ruffled Ribbon in Pool Party; Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch; 1 1/4" circle punch. So today is a great day in our house - Daddy's birthday! Steaks all around! This year I'm going for a fishing theme - it's been a while since I trotted these oldies but goodies out for some ink. It's almost time for fishing weather around here - yay! The design was inspired by Clean & Simple #211 - which also included a color challenge. Wow, those are tough for me - I must need to do more of them! Happy Birthday, baby - I love you. Fabulous Phrases, Fishin' (retired) & Fly Fishing (retired) stamp sets; Pool Party, Wild Wasabi, Chocolate Chip & Certainly Celery CS; Early Espresso & Wild Wasabi inks; Finishing Touches edgelit; natural linen thread. OK, I'm embarrassed to admit how long this gorgeous poppies stamp has been sitting around waiting to get inked up. Oops. I kept meaning to trot it out - this is also my first try at a clear-mount background image - the block for these poppies is ginormous! I REALLY enjoyed this Retro Sketch #32 - what a cool, innovative layout! Brava! Pleasant Poppies & Curly Cute stamp sets; Floral District DSP; Crumb Cake, Baja Breeze & Whisper White CS; Basic Black, Tangerine Tango, Lucky Limeade & Early Espresso inks. |
