Today's card could also have been called "Learning to Love Your Stamp-A-Ma-Jig." Here's my version of Clean & Simple #208 - I feel like I cheated a little bit! I figured by using the DSP that already had the dots, I wouldn't have to try so hard to get all the circles to align, but I still had to add some stamping! I'm really happy with the result, and I'm loving Summer Starfruit paired up with Elegant Eggplant - makes a nice salad together! A Fitting Occasion, Sweet Essentials & Short & Sweet (retired) stamp sets; Pool Party DSP; Whisper White& Elegant Eggplant CS.

So this week they celebrated one year of sketches over at Fresh Made Sketches - woo hoo! In honor of that, they invited card makers to choose ANY sketch from this last year to use for their card design this week - what a chance to see what I missed! I really am a Jane-Come-Lately in their world, so I went all the way back to Sketch #13. So, ahem, shhhh, this stamp is from another-company-that-shall-remain-nameless, but who make BEAUTIFUL scripture sets, which is all I get from them. So don't tell on me, OK? I'd get 'em from my Mother Ship if I could! This could be a cute wedding card, don'cha think? Crumb Cake CS; Urban Oasis DSP (retired); Corduroy Buttons in Kiwi Kiss (retired). Today's sketch from Retro Sketches #28 was all about trying some new color combos for me. I have to just out this out there - the new In Colors have NOT been talking to me, but they're slowly starting to grow on me one at a time! This is also the first time I've used my Designer Frames embossing folder. I can tell that'll be coming out again real soon! I know hearts are supposed to be red, but I decided to flip the color scheme today and see what happened - I think I like it! Al Punto (Easy Events) stamp set; Midnight Muse, Riding Hood Red & Pool Party CS; Wild Wasabi, Midnight Muse & Close to Cocoa (retired) inks; Storytime DSP; pleated satin ribbon in RHR; Fashionable Hearts embosslit; Designer Frames embossing folder. So here's the card I put together for the Clean & Simple #207 sketch - the colors look much brighter in this picture than they do in person! I was aiming for a very delicate and faded look, but apparently Nikon prefers to go for the gusto! I seem to be on a trend of turning these sketches sideways, which is strange to me, because I used to haunt a couple sketch blogs before I tried them myself, and I really used to be amazed at the people who could turn the sketches every which way! I always thought it would be something I couldn't do, but it seems to happen naturally, after all! I was really happy to use these stamp sets - and use the exact stamps that were the reasons I got these sets! I love the dogwood sprig, wish I had occasion to use it more, and that sentiment just makes my heart happy! Blessings to everyone! Soft Summer (retired) & Plant Hope (retired) stamp sets; Whisper White, Certainly Celery, Pink Pirouette & So Saffron CS; matching inks with a touch of Close to Cocoa (retired) for the branches. OK, let's do a quick review of all the "firsts" that doing the card sketch challenges has accomplished for me in this week alone: opened and used Tangerine Tango ink pad, yikes; ditto for both Delicate Designs embossing folders (yikes, again); first time to use my blender pens (what kind of demo am I, anyway?); posted my ideas at super creative people's blogs for everyone to see, holy smokes... Think I'll stop there! I begin to think that doing these sketches is really good for me! Yay, sketch challenge blog folks! You rock! And are turning me into a fussy cutting maniac! Here's my take on the Freshly Made Sketch #51! Betsy's Blossoms & Curly Cute stamp sets; Tangerine Tango, Lucky Limeade & Whisper White CS; Floral District DSP; Delicate Designs embossing folder; Tangerine Tango & Lucky Limeade inks; self-adhesive pearls. When I saw the new sketch challenge blog, Fab Friday, offered on the SU! Demo site, I knew I had to play along - the design team for this blog features some of our most talented artists, IMHO! How could I not join in? Last Friday was the release of the very first sketch, and I had to think long and hard before coming up with this! I started from the embossing folder, believe it or not, and went on from there - it's about time I broke that in! Enjoy a nice cuppa on me, and make sure to go check out the other beautiful creations (and play along!) Tea Shoppe stamp set; Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla & Pool Party CS; Everyday Enchantment DSP (retired-sob!); Crumb Cake, Lucky Limeade, Wisteria Wonder & Soft Suede inks; Delicate Details embossing folder; button from subtles collection; White baker's twine. The Clean & Simple #206 challenge was another toughie for me - these sketches are deceptively sparse, and I want to dress them up right and left! I resisted the urge to go over the top this week, and tried to think of elements that would go well together in a mini-maxi kind of pairing. Snowflakes would be another cute way to do this, but I need to get into Fall before it slips past! Autumn only lasts about a day here in Arizona, so I try to stretch the season with my projects! Gently Falling, Day of Gratitude & The More the Merrier (retired) stamp sets; Crumb Cake & Very Vanilla CS; Early Espresso, Chocolate Chip, Soft Suede, More Mustard, Cajun Craze & Old Olive inks. And then I heard it. Faint, at first. A whisper of peeps, a plucky chorus. Then more insistent. The siren cluck. Enjoy. Best of Cluck (retired) stamp set; Whisper White CS; Gumball Green, Summer Starfruit, Real Red, Apricot Appeal (retired) & Barely Banana (retired) inks. OK, I'm in a groove - catching up with my sketches! This one is from Retro Sketch #27 - and I had to turn it sideways! I really love this Take Care stamp set - the sayings are so simple, and so lovely, and I really love the font - I hope they do a whole alphabet in this! Take Care stamp set; Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Crumb Cake & Whisper White CS; Pawsitively Prints II DSP (retired); ruffled ribbon in Pool Party; Linen Thread. Uh oh - looks like I missed the submission deadline for Fresh Made Sketch #50 - oops! Oh well - I can still post it for you! Sheesh, I go away for one weekend, and I let everything go to pot! For today's card, I pulled out a lot of retired stash items - I need more manly birthday cards! It was fun to combine all the nautical elements here - quick and easy! Enjoy! Sail Away (retired), Happiest Birthday Wishes (retired) & The Open Sea stamp sets; Basic Gray, Whisper White & Not Quite Navy CS; Nautical Expedition DSP (retired); Cherry Cobbler baker's twine. |
