Hm, I think this week's Retro Sketch #144 reminds me a bit of a sheriff's badge - you know what THAT means! Can I make it work with Can You Case It #48? So, as usual, I had a challenging time picking out some elements to work together. I LOVE this set, but when it comes to actually using it, it's a job. Throwing in a color challenge, too, just added to the fun, lol. In the end, I'm pretty satisfied with my final results, though I had to take some little liberties with the sketch, turning stuff every which way. I think this would be a very fashion-forward posse, personally... Yee-haw Stamp Set; Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake Whisper White & Blackberry Bliss CS; Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake & Blackberry Bliss Inks; Lucky Stars Embossing Folder; 1 3/4" Circle, and 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" Square Punches. New Year's Wreath Class December 13! I can FINALLY post a picture of our BEAUTIFUL New Year's Rosette Wreath, featuring the yummy All Is Calm DSP pack. It took me a week to work out how to get that little banner hung - argh! We will now use every scrap of our DSP sheets, lol - yes! So class is still on for Saturday December 13, 3:30 PM. All supplies included, $20. Treats and snacks will be on hand, for sure, still time for Christmas Cookies, right?? RSVP today so I can be sure to have your supplies ready for you! And of course, if either of the dates is no good for you, please do let me know and we will make it happen! Cheers!

We're still getting chilly at My Pumpkin Challenge #1214 - Brr! It's Cold! Long-time readers may remember that I had some fun turning LAST year's Holiday Pumpkin into a Noel Shadow Box decoration for my hall table - anyone else still hording some of that star garland? So cute! So, last year there was also a demo contest for alternate Paper Pumpkin projects - I know, right? It's like they said, gee, let's make a contest JUST for Heather! After a tiny bit of dithering, I sent in several projects, including the Noel Shadow box. Sob. But hey, it won! I heard it was on display at convention - woo hoo! But, now I'm back to having no Christmas Shadow Box, and I have a new pumpkin to do it with, too, lol. I like the word "Noel," and I took the opportunity to combine it with the so appropriate sentiment in Gentle Peace. So here we are, chilly, but joyful, right? Hopefully there isn't another contest this year... So what are you doing with your chilly Pumpkin, hmm? Let's see it! Paper Pumpkin Simply Snowflake; plus Gentle Peace Stamp Set; Lost Lagoon, Whisper White & Soft Sky CS; Soft Sky Ink; Serif Essentials Alphabet Dies; Star Punch (for flagging the sentiment.) New Year's Wreath Class December 11 or 13! I can FINALLY post a picture of our BEAUTIFUL New Year's Rosette Wreath, featuring the yummy All Is Calm DSP pack. It took me a week to work out how to get that little banner hung - argh! We will now use every scrap of our DSP sheets, lol - yes! This week's Create With Connie & Mary #332 makes a fun challenge - to create a gift card holder! I always am amazed by the clever holders I've seen others make - hope I can measure up! So, there's one style I've been really wanting to make ever since I spotted it at the For-Demos-Only Occasions Mini Catalog Preview last week - I got to watch a streaming presentation online! (And oh-my-stars are you guys going to be totally psyched when you see this catty! Your copies are on the way!) Anyway, one of the samples we got to see looked like a regular card from the outside, but when you opened it, there was this interior slot for holding a gift card. Wow! This style has probably been around a while, but I knew right away I needed to winkle it out, lol. To make the card base, cut your card stock at 5 1/2" x 10 1/2". Score the long edge at 4 1/4", 5 1/4" and 6 1/4". Use your Stampin' Trimmer to cut a narrow slot along the 5 1/4" scoreline, starting and stopping 1" from top and bottom. Fold the card base into a "W," and run a narrow strip of glue along the back seam to give a back-stop to the slot. Voila! Perfect Blend & Christmas Bliss Stamp Sets; Nordic Noel DSP; Baked Brown Sugar, Whisper White, Garden Green & Soft Sky CS; Memento Tuxedo Black & Real Red Inks; Hamburger Box Bigz Die (for the tag); Snow Burst Embossing Folder; 1/8" Real Red Taffeta Ribbon; Frosted Sequins Embellishments. And of course, if either of the dates is no good for you, please do let me know and we will make it happen! Cheers! Yay! Look at all the banners in this week's Sunday Stamps #90! I love banners! How can I combine them with this week's In{k}spire Me #176, and bring in some frosty winter?? A Frosty Christmas Theme really does bring up Endless Wishes for me - my fave snowflakes this year (again!) I like the contrast suggested in the sketch for the banners, too, though I couldn't help adding one to make it more symmetrical to my eye. To be honest, I like the final card a lot more than I thought I would, and of course, I'm super happy to indulge my Lost Lagoon addition some more, too! Tip: Lately I've been using my star punch to flag the banner ends - for some reason I'm liking the shallower angle it makes better than the sharper one I get with a square punch. This seems to match the angle in the latest round of thinlets, as well. Endless Wishes Stamp Set; Lost Lagoon, Whisper White & Smoky Slate CS; Lost Lagoon & Whisper White Craft Inks; White Embossing Powder; Basic Jewel Rhinestones; Star Punch. New Year's Wreath Class December 11 or 13! I can FINALLY post a picture of our BEAUTIFUL New Year's Rosette Wreath, featuring the yummy All Is Calm DSP pack. Is this my chance to finally use my Gorgeous Grunge set again, lol? And how about that - Just Add Ink #243 has a "fresh" color combo to go with! Since I'm feeling a little silly today, and I had bright colors to work with, I naturally went for my Calling All Heroes set, lol. I so love giving my "supers" crazy hair! It's surprisingly challenging to get this in the salon... Calling All Heroes Stamp Set; Tempting Turquoise, Wild Wasabi, Real Red & Whisper White CS; Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, Strawberry Slush & Wild Wasabi Inks; Snowflake Thinlets (for sentiment); Subtles Candy Dots in Wild Wasabi. Whatever it is, it will look great paired with this week's Nacho Average Challenge #118! I really haven't used my Christmas Bauble enough, so I wanted to use it for my focal image today. I think the color challenge offers an interesting alternative, as well! I KNOW I don't use Pistachio Pudding enough, which is really ironic: when these In Colors came out, I was so sure that Pistachio Pudding would be my absolute favorite of all time - I LOVE pistachios! In reality, I've been Blackberry Bliss smitten from day one, lol. Go figure. Christmas Bauble & Christmas Bliss Stamp Sets; Lullaby DSP; Whisper White, Soft Sky & Smoky Slate CS; Versamark, Smoky Slate, Soft Sky & Pistachio Pudding Inks; Silver Embossing Powder; Hamburger Bigz XL Die (for the tag); 1/8" Silver Ribbon. New Year's Wreath Class December 11 or 13! Do you like my little reminder picture? This is your Save the Date notice for our next class, a BEAUTIFUL New Year's Rosette Wreath, featuring the yummy All Is Calm DSP pack. You can see a little sneak peak here, BUT I haven't had time to add our banner sentiment or other New Year's Party details yet - as soon as I do I'll change the picture! So class is announced for Thursday December 11, 6:30 pm, or Saturday December 13, 3:30 PM. All supplies included, $25. Treats and snacks will be on hand, for sure, still time for Christmas Cookies, right?? RSVP today so I can be sure to have your supplies ready for you! OK, nifty layout at this week's Can You Case It #47! The design team's samples are SO varied, the mark of a great sketch, lol... It's a bit overcast here today - I think I need some color. And I feel nice and calm (cloudy weather encourages the hibernation instinct to kick in here in AZ, lol...) so I also want to do a bit of fussy cutting. I think that calls for Partridge & Pears - such yummy images! I went back and forth a bit about adding some ribbon, but in the end I left it off - this is a fair bit of fussy cutting even for me, so I wanted it to really shine! Partridge & Pears Stamp Set; Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White & So Saffron CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Chocolate Chip, Pear Pizzazz, Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Blushing Bride, So Saffron & Calypso Coral Inks; Subtles Candy Dots in Blushing Bride. Wow, there are a LOT of subtle layers in this week's Retro Sketch #143! I think I can also sneak in Merry Monday #137 - Feathered Friends! If I'm doing "Feathered Friends," that pretty much calls for Beauty of the Season, which I haven't used since that first Christmas card class I did - shame! I feel like I don't have the right DSP here, but I used every speck of my Trim the Tree pack, so this will have to do! Had some fun adding a bit of dimension to my cardinal, though I think it's hard to see... Beauty of the Season Stamp Set; Nordic Noel DSP; Real Red, Garden Green & Whisper White CS; Early Espresso, Real Red, Garden Green & Crushed Curry Inks; Early Espresso Baker's Twine. OK, let's hear it for how totally AWESOME this month's Paper Pumpkin, "Simply Snowflake" is! I know, right? So many plans for this baby, and we have the perfect theme at My Pumpkin Challenge #1214 - Brr! It's Cold! I decided to start low key and do a different style card layout with the kit. I just recently noticed how much I am doing these top-fold layouts lately - not quite sure when that started, but it's perfect for our latest Paper Pumpkin! Simply trim off on of the flaps, turn it portrait-wise, and add a contrasting panel behind the cutouts - I used Lost Lagoon, of course. I added a few other light details - layered upper sentiment from the kit, a cute thinlet at the bottom, some ribbon, it all just comes together! Hint: make sure you are saving those tiny silver circles from the centers of the hole reinforcers in the kits - they make a yummy detail on the snowflake centers, and they're already adhesive! Good smaller alternate to the rhinestones you also get with the kit... Paper Pumpkin Simply Snowflake; plus, Lost Lagoon CS; Snowflake Card & Circle Card Thinlets; 3/8" Silky Taffeta Ribbon in Lost Lagoon. New Year's Wreath Class December 11 or 13! My name is Heather, and I am a sketch-challenge addict. The way I can tell is when I have to start triaging my list of challenges I want to play with in a given week, because they won't all fit. You know, I originally started this blog hoping to post two or three times a week, then went to five days, then added Saturdays, because really, my own class announcements were starting to take up too much real estate, and then heck, why NOT just go for 7 days a week? I can add my class announcements at the bottom, right? Sigh. I have it BAD. So here, I plan to get two for one! They're both so new to me, I can't bear to drop the ball so early - I love them so much! I think I can make Create With Connie & Mary #331 and Just Add Ink's #242 work together, I swear! Enjoy! Bloom With Hope Stamp Set; Whisper White & Pool Party CS; Sweet Taffy DSP; Crushed Curry Baker's Twine; Memento Tuxedo Black Ink; Daffodil Delight Blendas; Corner Rounder Punch; Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits. |
