This week's Merry Monday #116 - Green & White, is a perfect holiday color challenge! This dramatic stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs is one I've had for a while, and somehow is one I've not done much with. Given that this is a green and white challenge this week, there's just no way I can't use it! I think the reason I've always struggled with this stamp is that it's such a focal image, but it leaves big background spaces - what to do? Today I decided I should fill in the forest a bit, so to speak, lol. That Lovely As a Tree set is SO versatile! Lovely As A Tree & ODB Joy Tree Stamp Sets; Whisper White & Old Olive CS; Old Olive & Whisper White Craft Inks; White Embossing Powder; Corner Rounder Punch; Basic Jewel Jumbo Rhinestone; 1/4" Grosgrain in Old Olive. It's still party time at this month's My Pumpkin Challenge #0714 - Celebrate! We had a wonderful weekend for our July 4 holiday - a whole family of friends came to stay, and we had a blast! Lots of fireworks to watch, some pool time, a boat ride (who knew a GoPro video recorder could be so handy??) and of course, excellent barbeque nosh! As an added treat (and please, no one excoriate me, ok?) we got a SMALL supply of legal "fireworks" for the kids to play with on the big day. This being Arizona, it's a short list, lol... Each one received a few sparklers, and a little cache of black powder "poppers," those little paper twists that make a SNAP! noise when you throw them down on a hard surface. Always a fave with the young lads, you know what I mean? At least they weren't fart bombs, thank God! Anyway, I divvied out these treats for everyone into these cute little 4 oz espresso cups, which I of course had to decorate for the occasion! "See, you get this much and NO MORE!" Let's just say it was a hit, and leave it at that. I promise, no household pets were annoyed in the least by this silly party treat! Each cup only needed one pinwheel sheet and half of a straw. I cut the pinwheel into its obvious four triangles, and stacked them all up, flipping two over for contrast. I trimmed off 1" along the long edge on either side of two triangles, and 1 1/2" off the other two triangles, then just glued them to the cup points down. I punched a bunch of banner shapes and adhered with glue dots, and added the stars for extra detail. For the lid, a 1 1/2" Circle punch fills in the indentation perfectly. I also placed two glue dots opposite each other on the lid rim, and wound round the Baker's Twine, adhering as I went - it holds the twine perfectly! Add a straw flag, and you're all set! If you wanted them extra sparkly, a Basic Jewel Rhinestone on each punched star could really punch them up even more! Paper Pumpkin Pinwheel Party Kit; plus, Real Red, Whisper White & Night of Navy CS; 1 1/2" Circle, Banner & Itty Bitty Accent Star Punches. Summer School is OPEN! Time for one more match-up for the week - this time I'm here with In{k}spire Me #154 and Clean & Simple #297. So, I knew I needed to play with the shapes more on this sketch - no way I could do flowers, lol. Haven't inked up my Six-Sided Sampler set for a while, and these colors look so nice together - I gave it a go! Then I decided to pair up some circle shapes, and played with A Round Array for a while before deciding to use the lovely embellies from last year's In Color Boutique Details. I really like this contrast, too! For a change, I remembered to grab the Very Vanilla called for instead of going straight for the Whisper White, too! Six-Sided Sampler Stamp Set; Perfect Plum, Baked Brown Sugar, Very Vanilla & Soft Sky CS; Cherry Cobbler, Soft Sky, Perfect Plum & Baked Brown Sugar Inks; Hexagon Punch; In Color Boutique Details Embellishments in Baked Brown Sugar (retired.) It's going to be another week of color match-ups - can you tell already? Here we are with Sunday Stamps #79, paired with Retro Sketches #122! I decided the way I wanted to play with the colors was in map form - just thought they'd look extra nifty together that way! So out came my trusty Map It Out photopolymer set, which really doesn't get enough ink time, anyway... Rather than "full-fat" versions of the colors, I used aqua-painters to roughly add the dashes of color - still fairly good with staying in the lines, but sort of slap-dash applied, to give a little texture illusion. A nice gender-neutral card, too - mission accomplished! Map It Out, Greetings From, Just Sayin' & World Map Stamp Sets; Whisper White & Marina Mist CS; Basic Gray, Marina Mist & Wild Wasabi Inks; Word Bubble Framelits; 5/8" Satin Ribbon in Basic Gray; Subtles Candy Dots in Wild Wasabi. Wow, a tricky Color Combo at this week's Nacho Average Challenge #96 - let's try it with Freshly Made Sketches #143! I actually laughed out loud when I saw the colors - I had just been looking at my Rose Red pad trying to remember if I had EVER used it, so did I really need to upgrade it to firm foam? Well, it's been broken in now! I've been wanting to give our new made-for-punch-layers flower a spin - Bloom for You. It has a cute new coordinating punch for the bloom - yummy! While I was a bit unsure about the colors at first, I love how they pull together in the finished card - see what a good challenge (or two!) will bring to the table? Bloom for You, Dotty Angles & Something to Say Stamp Sets; Whisper White, Pacific Point & Coastal Cabana CS; Rose Red, Pacific Point & Coastal Cabana Inks; Fun Flower, 7/8" Scallop Circle & 1/2" Circle Punches. Uh oh, I think this week's Merry Monday #115 White On White Challenge is a tough one! Here goes... This card shows my third stab at something that could even photograph half-way decent, I'm embarrassed to say. Tone-on-tone in white is NOT my thing, I think, the the other samples I see at the site are GORGEOUS... I finally settled on doing something Very Vanilla over Whisper White - that counts, right? Trying to go the other way - Whisper White on Very Vanilla - didn't show up hardly at all, sigh... So, you don't get to see my dream of a sparkly snowy landscape, but this looks kind of vintage to me now - must be the awesome new Venetian Crochet Trim! NO STAMPS - GASP; Whisper White & Very Vanilla CS; Snow Burst Embossing Folder; Expressions Thinlets; Venetian Crochet Trim; Corner Rounder Punch; Basic Jewel Jumbo Pearls. Summer School is OPEN! Hm, neat layout at Clean & Simple #296 - this is an unusual style for them, I think - I like it! I still have one or two un-inked new stamps to play with, and one with a nice large focal image is Snapshot, our awesome 35 mm camera. The catty shows it inked with our new Blendabilties markers, but I was leaning towards a different color scheme than I have markers for - grr! The whimsy of this sketch also seemed to lend itself to all the cute phrases in @SoSocial, too, so I brought that little prize out again, too! No, I have NOT started tweeting in real life, yet, lol... Snapshot, @SoSocial & Something to Say Stamp Sets; Moonlight DSP Pack; Lost Lagoon, Hello Honey & Whisper White CS; Lost Lagoon, Smoky Slate, Basic Gray & Hello Honey Inks; Itty Bitty Accents Punch. Aww, are you sad you missed Pumpkin Club this past Saturday?? Yes, you are! We made four AWESOME projects, exclusive to our new Pumpkin Club! Now we're keeping up the challenge with this month's My Pumpkin Challenge #0714 - Celebrate! This month's kit is jam-packed with pinwheel goodies, so much so that I have more projects to offer even after our lovely Club Day! We talked at Club about what else to do with the straws - here it is! Make firecrackers! I cut the straw into 2" lengths, squirted a shot of hot glue in one end, and stuck in a twist of the Silver Tinsel Trim I've been hoarding for I don't know how long - looks like they're about to crackle off the card, huh? Now, what does your pumpkin celebration look like? And remember, to get in on the Pumpkin Club action, just subscribe here - Pumpkin Club is free for all my subscribers! Paper Pumpkin Pinwheel Party Kit; plus, Real red, Night of Navy & Whisper White CS; Real Red Ink; Stars Decorative Mask; Silver Tinsel Trim (retired.) Summer School is OPEN! This week's In{k}spire Me #153 looks like a fun one - and for a change, I think I have to go with the "obvious." I have a new stamp set sobbing on my desk! It wants INK! Flower Patch is a TON of fun to work with - so many nifty ways to layer the flowers and leaves - there's almost too much choice, lol. The icing on the cake is the set of framelits made to go with - makes it even easier to add another layer of drama with dimension! I decided today to make the layered flowers single layer - I haven't done too much "stamping over stamping," and I was curious about how it would look. I LOVE how they came out! The photopolymer stamps really make this technique a snap! I can see stacking the stamped layers, too, that would also be very cool... As you can see, I pulled out all the stops on the ink colors, too - my little party to celebrate the final conversion of all my ink pads to firm foam - woo hoo! Flower Patch Stamp Set; Gold Soiree Specialty DSP; Pear Pizzazz & Whisper White CS; Pear Pizzazz, Blackberry Bliss, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral, Pink Pirouette, Lost Lagoon, Pool Party, Crushed Curry & So Saffron Inks; Flower Fair & PL Cards & Labels Framelits; Basic Jewel Pearls & Jumbo Pearls; Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.
