Recently, our dear friend Agnes approached me about making her some cards to share, celebrating the memory of her husband, also our dear friend, Richard. I can't believe we have been without him for a year now, and even now, I see something almost every day that I think I want to share with him, or talk to him about, and am reminded anew that that's all on hold now. I was so flattered (and intimidated!) when Agnes asked for my help! We talked about what images were important to her memories, and about Richard's use of the phrase "Just another day in paradise..." which was his response whenever we called to see how he was doing - so like him! Our discussions yielded this card, and afforded me some time for myself to say goodbye once again. More than this, though, I was really struck by the sense I had of Richard while I worked on these, and how strengthened I feel in my conviction that I will see him again, and that he waits for all of us. In paradise. Here's a fun CASE I had to share - this is from Lea Carswell, of Australia! (Sorry, couldn't find her public page, but she's on Pinterest! And no, I still don't go there - I was looking for Lea!) I made some of my own touches (of course!), but her all-things-green theme really caught my eye - I knew I had to do that! I've never used all our greens at once on such a small area as a card - it works out surprisingly well, I think! Betsy's Blossoms & Pretty Postage stamp sets; Whisper White, Always Artichoke & Soft Suede CS; Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, Always Artichoke & Early Espresso inks; Postage Stamp & 1" Square punches; Designer Brushed Bronze button; Always Artichoke seam binding ribbon. For this week's Retro Sketch #62, I had a special request to fill! My mother is enrolled in an EFM program at her church - that stands for "Education For Ministry," and sort of gives a lay equivalent of classical theological study, over three to five years, depending on where you get your courses. Mom's group has a small group graduating this year from their program, and she requested some cards to share her congratulations with them - how cool! Hope they enjoy these, and feel encouraged! ODB Scripture Collection 8 stamp set; Smoky Slate, Basic Gray & Pool Party CS; This and That Epic Day DSP; Basic Gray ink; Linen Thread; self-adhesive Rhinestones. WHAT a fabulous, fun and sweet time at the Baby Shower! Having one for twins just makes for twice the nice! The treats were SO awesome (there was even a gluten-free cookie, so I got to have COOKIES!) and all the presents were so filled with love... I love my parish! As promised, here's the tutorial for these little onesie favors - enjoy! Whew - finally made it to my last Pumpkin sample, and then the post title turned out to be problematic: "Simple Friend?" "Clean Friend?" That was a close one! Strangely, this week's Clean & Simple #239 was another sketch that was practically perfect for the March 2013 Paper Pumpkin - I've seen a lot of folks cut out those leftovers from the "award" shaped sticker, and I knew I wanted to try that on at least one of the "Hey There" cards. This was my big chance! It turned out to be lucky I hadn't used my buttons on other cards, as well, that gave me just a few more circle to work with - yay! March 2013 Paper Pumpkin - Hey There; So Saffron, Tempting Turquoise CS & ink; Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder; 7/8" Circle punch; green string. OK, everyone, we're almost there - only one more Paper Pumpkin after this one! And then, of course, the next kit will come, lol... But I'll make sure to spread them out better next time, I promise! So, this Freshly Made Sketch #84 OF COURSE screamed "Hey There, Friend" to me, because of the little flag shape - that was one of the exact elements in the March Paper Pumpkin! The sketch gods are calling for more Pumpkins, I swear! I added a bit of color to brighten things up even more - but even so, this card took 5 minutes flat! Just enough time to squeeze in before the PTO meeting! March 2013 Paper Pumpkin - "Hey There"; Old Olive & Tempting Turquoise CS; Tempting Turquoise & Basic Black inks; 1/4" grosgrain in Old Olive; self-adhesive Rhinestones. OK, I went SUPER minimalist for this week's Retro Sketch #61 - I swear, it's really me, not my evil alien clone, bwahahaha! I can't really explain it, I just saw this clean white field, with tiny splashes of color. And movement, subtle movement. I am resisting mightily adding any bling. (But I bet it would look REAL cute!) I felt like this sentiment went best with the DSP choice - I guess I have a head-start on next year's Valentine's, sigh... A Round Array stamp set; Whisper White & Island Indigo CS; Sent With Love DSP; Real Red, Calypso Coral & Island Indigo inks; Calypso Coral baker's twine; 7/8" Scallop Circle punch. OK, here's the final "Seriously" card - I promise! Yay! The bad news is I still have one card left in the "Hey There" kit, that has to go, too. I ought to finish just in time for the May kit to arrive, huh? I think I will resolve to do one kit card a week from now on, so they don't end up laying around. OTOH, I'm really loving transforming these cards by applying the different sketch challenges to them - the sketches really do give you boundless flexibility! So, victim #4, I mean, lucky recipient #4 is Paper Craft Crew Sketch #40 - how'd I do? It IS a funny little exercise to impose these kinds of conditions on myself, lol, but hey, sometimes it just has to be done. One thing I do love about the Paper Pumpkin kits is that they have great bones for the more avid stamper, while they still can be totally stand-alone for the novice. So far, I've also gotten cute accessories that I didn't actually already have - like the great nickel buttons in the "Seriously" kit. Good times! April 2013 Paper Pumpkin -Seriously; plus, More Mustard & Old Olive CS; Ovals Collection framelits; Occasions piercing template; Regals DSP pack on envelope-Not Quite Navy; Old Olive & Not Quite Navy inks.
