Today's card is brought to you courtesy of My Pumpkin Challenge #0315 - Folds, Punches & Fun! I decided today I wanted to make a mini version of some kind of fancy fold. I did a bit of searching, and found this idea at Path of Paper. Cute window! I decided to try that with my Pumpkin and some Sale-A-Bration goodies and see how it went. I actually love how this little cutie came out! I can see this propped open on someone's desk brightening their day, for sure! I added a ribbon tie around the cover since I went a little crazy with the layers, and it doesn't want to close very naturally, lol. It all fits in my little home-made envelope, though - yes! So do you have some pretty folds for us this week? Can't wait to see! Oo, I'm totally digging the squiggly element at this week's Retro Sketch #156! I think I'll take some color inspiration from Just Add Ink's #253 and have a go! So, it's hard not to look at all that pink, and NOT think flamingo, lol. So out came Flamingo Lingo to go with my new and much-beloved squiggles! I added a couple touches of silver, too, to go with that pretty water reflection element at Just Add Ink. This turned out to be a quick card, too, but it kept me smiling! Flamingo Lingo and Snuggles & Smooches Stamp Sets; Whisper White & Basic Black CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Melon Mambo & Whisper White Craft Inks; Silver Embossing Powder; Bitty Banners Framelits; Petite Petals Punch; 1/4" Cotton Ribbon in Melon Mambo; 1/8" Silver Ribbon; Neutrals Candy Dot in Basic Black. OK, we'll skip right over how many times my resolve wavered and I started to do a regular landscape card. I persevered! I don't know how I'll store this giant card, but I did it! I envisioned a nice fancy wedding card, that I could use the beautiful Something Borrowed DSP for. This let me stick to just one ink color, too, so I knew I needed to really pull out the stops for my decorative border. That definitely took the most tinkering. In the end I went with this stamped border from Bordering Blooms, and hand-trimmed to give some visual interest. Whew. PS. Yes, I made my own envelope for this one, and yes, I used the envelope punch board. It took me a while to find the measurements I needed, so I figure I'll just note them for you! Start with a 10 1/2" square, and your punch/score line is 3 3/8". You have to flip and rotate the square a bit out of order so that you can make the long score line - it runs off the board, lol. But it totally works! You also have to trim the flaps a bit too, so there's no overlap. Good luck! Bravo & Border Blooms Stamp Sets; Something Borrowed DSP; Sahara Sand & Whisper White CS; Sahara Sand Ink; Silver Baker's Twine; Something Borrowed Embellishment; Basic Jewel Jumbo Rhinestones (retired). Let's try to mix it up by adding this lovely color challenge from In{k}spire Me #188! As usual, to start, I decided to take a browse through the stamp shelves and see if I could find something I haven't used yet - and I hit the jackpot! While I have used the fun Well Worded set, I haven't used the flower image yet. I felt like that could possibly fit in my color scheme, too. For the sentiment I wanted something long and skinny, and this thought from Simply Wonderful seemed made to pair with the image I chose - score! I feel like I've ended up with a super simple and sweet card for a friend, with just a couple of dress-up touches and dimension - perfect! Well Worded & Simply Wonderful Stamp Sets; Baked Brown Sugar, Calypso Coral & Very Vanilla CS; 2015 Occasions Catalog Wrap DSP; Calypso Coral & Baked Brown Sugar Inks; Subtles Candy Dots in Calypso Coral. So, you know, I don't actually have a lot of green and red DSP sitting around. All my fave collections were more, um, alternative, color schemes, let's say! So I dug through my retired "stash" to a few sheets I still had from Festival of Prints! I had just enough of some contrasting colors to pull together! I also thought I would have some fun coloring in my Nutcracker from the set Santa 'Stache to go with. I love to color! Get it? I picked from the stash for the 'stache? Yuk, yuk. OK, I'm not really cut out for stand up, I know, lol. Santa 'Stache Stamp Set; Festival of Prints DSP Stack (retired); Old Olive & Very Vanilla CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Crushed Curry, Smoky Slate & Blush Blossom Inks; Mustache Framelit; Word Window & Modern Label Punches; Basic Jewel Rhinestones. And look at that, this week's sketch at Can You Case It? is a #59, too! Let's throw that in there for company! So, looking over my Sale-A-Bration sets, it occurred to me I haven't used this sweet little bird yet. I got to thinking, how would I color this birdie with this week's challenge colors? Is it doable? Why YES it is! At least, I think so, lol... The rest is kind of an assemblage of elements I had in the right colors - pieces of DSP from a couple places (is it snowing where my birdie is?) some ribbon, you know, you do what you gotta do! In the end, I really like how it came out! Can't wait to see you over at Fab Friday! A Happy Thing Stamp Set; Lullaby & Best Year Ever DSP; Whisper White, Blushing Bride & Hello Honey CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Blushing Bride, Hello Honey & Calypso Coral Inks; Circles Collection Framelits; Banner Punch; 1/4" Cotton Ribbon in Blushing Bride; White Gel Pen. Hello Life Kit Class March 12 or 14! OK, yes, I KNOW that isn't a picture of our awesome upcoming class project made with the Hello Life Project Kit! See, I had a late brainstorm, and started, and then changed tracks again - we're making a St. Patrick's version for our first go! I'm just finishing up a few tiny details, and will have a gorgeous picture for you very soon! I promise it's totally cute! RSVP to reserve your kit today! Here's a fun sketch at this week's Retro Sketch #155 - love this large focal shape running off the edge! I knew I wanted to give that "off the edge" element a try, so the first thing I did was cut my card base down to 7 1/2" x 5 1/2", and scored across the short side at 3 3/4". This would give me 1/2" of space to run off the top edge, and still fit in a regular envelope. All that worked out, I went hunting for my image. I settled on Blended Bloom, and, well, got out my most recent blendies. I feel a little bad about it, because I know that SU! has turned off ordering for these while they complete investigation of some quality issues even more recently uncovered. This thought reminded me how blessed I myself have been to not have had any of these issues, so I next went to Banner Blessings for my sentiment, lol. See how my mind works? So for everyone still chomping at the bit over blendies, remember the thought celebrated on today's card, hee hee, and recognize SU!'s love for us in turn, while they work on making our experience a better one all 'round. Hang in there, dear ones! It might take a while, but I feel sure that Blendies Will Return! Blended Bloom & Banner Blessings Stamp Sets; Old Olive & Whisper White CS; Park Lane DSP; Memento Tuxedo Black Ink; Pink Pirouette & Daffodil Delight Blendies; Spring Flowers Embossing Folder. For my first offering, I couldn't quite turn off my fascination for what I call the "giraffe stamp" in our Layers of Gratitude kit. It's such a little thing, and it interlocks so beautifully for a whimsical background - I just couldn't stop! Since I just got a roll of the sparkly Bermuda Bay sequin trim, I decided to go with that color for my stamping, too. The sturdy felt letters from the kit squeezed into place, and contrast just how I hoped with the Bermuda Bay. I guess this is how I bring on the FUN!! Can't wait to see all your lovely creations - be there or be Pumpkin! Paper Pumpkin - Layers of Gratitude; plus, Whisper White CS and Envelope; Bermuda Bay Ink; Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim. I'm excited to see that the Clean & Simple blog seems to be reviving - they were the sketch blog that started it all for me! To celebrate, they are bringing back their very first sketch from 8 years ago: Clean & Simple #1 - Take 2! Yay! I decided to try a stamped version of this sketch - and a set that leaped out at me as having a roughly square shape to use is our oh-so-versatile Work of Art set. I feel a little ashamed that I don't use this set more, since SU! gave me one for FREE at the catty launch last year, shhh... I better start stamping more with it to show my gratitude, lol! So that's how I ended up with this cheery and abstract card - see how I had to turn the squares every time to make it all fit?? Work of Art Stamp Set; Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral & Whisper White CS; Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry & Pear Pizzazz Inks; Best Day Ever Ribbon in Coastal Cabana; Basic Jewel Rhinestones. I love the possibilities the scatter of shapes gives us in this week's In{k}spire Me #187! Call me crazy, but I think SU-per #78's Brights challenge is just MADE for this sketch! A shape I haven't played with in a while is our Starburst - and that of course means using our Starburst Sayings stamp set, too, lol. But I needed a sentiment I could do up in a little banner, so I switched to our Sale-A-Bration set Big Day - lots of letters I could color in to keep my rainbow theme going! I'm happy to be able to pull out this set again, because it's been on the sick list for a while around here! Somehow, I lost the little candle that came in this set, so I got another one on my next SAB order - whew! Those little suckers can be hard to keep track of around here - and curious Labradors don't exactly help... Snicker. Anyway, that's why I made a point of stamping them on my envelope - gotta use it before I lose it - again! Starburst Sayings & Big Day Stamp Sets; Whisper White, Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive & Real Red CS; Memento Tuxedo Black, Real Red, Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point & Rich Razzleberry Inks; Starburst & Banners Framelits; Lucky Stars Embossing Folder; Basic Jewel Rhinestones. |
