Schaube
2-22-05: The Olive Night velvet arrived and is washed and ready to go. Still looking for the lining silk, not having much luck on ebay for that. I'll probably just break down and get something from Super Silk.
1-24-05: I've been scouting some cotton velvet for the schaube, I don't think that the silk velvet I picked up in LA will be sturdy enough. I just got some swatches in from Denver Fabrics. From top to bottom, left to right, I have "Prune," "Olive Night," "Moss," "Pecan" and "Bison." I think I'll go with "Olive Night," and I'm trolling for some lighter weight grey silk dupioni on eBay for lining. I still want to do the rabbit fur edging at the collar, and maybe the cuffs and hem, too, if I have enough.
7-21-04: Besides shopping for fabric for the drum farthingale dress that SG is building, I kept an eye out for any fabrics that I could incorporate into my Nuremberg gown. I found this nice piece of rich brown silk velvet in LA at Home Fabrics that they gave me for $12 that might work for a schaube. We also went to The Hide House in San Dimas on the way to the airport (well, it's not really on the way) and I found these beautiful rabbit pelts for an edging, maybe around the collar. I've thrown down some cream colored linen for contrast and a possible lining choice, this was the linen I used to line my outer Flemish gown as well.
